They're actually calling her "Moe"? Kind of trying too hard, isn't it?

I don't really understand advertising like this. How could something like this get 50,000 people to do anything?

Yeah, exactly. If you don't use public transportation at the moment, I fail to see how a cute girl on the payment card is going to change that.

It would probably only work, if the Moe character becomes popular. This isn't the first time that anime and public transportation have joined together.

The reason no one uses the Kyoto subway system much is cause it sucks and there aren't that many trains.

It's faster to take the bus.

Instead of horrible unmoe "moe" characters the should work on access and improving the infrastructure.

Also speaking as a tokyoite, kansai train riders are damn rude, talk loud crowd into the trains. I'm totally east Japan jaded.

Heh, bet you'd love Chicago. Tokyo trains were pretty awesome. I miss them.

This character reminds me of American fanart or some sort of Moefication of 90's anime stylings.

It's like Westerners attaching the label "manga" on anything just to try to sell it to the gullibles.

Now, Japanese are attaching moe to anything just to try to sell it to the gullibles. Laughing

Moe? I don't think so! The character from that graphic is just a tad too old-looking to be considered moe.

Now THIS definitely fits the definition of moe:

Note the main characters from the upcoming Smile Precure! season of the long-running Pretty Cure franchise looks like around 12 years old and definitely "cute as a button." Wink

So, are the buses in Japan, in general, faster than the trains? (I mean, as far as how frequently they run.)

I'd imagine that ground level transportation is also more convenient(due to quick stops, turns, bus transfers etc.)

It is not much more obvious than all the other "telling names" so common in anime / manga and lots of Japanese media. Only most of the time the foreign audience never understands the "telling", so "Moe" might seem more straightforward. It is a normal modern first name though.

Depends where you're going. Bus gets stuck in traffic jams, subway doesn't. Anyway, Kyoto subway and bus are the same company and as you can see on the card shown in the article, this character is for both.
