I heard Sword Art Online is really good before, wish they would adapt it into an anime or at least translate it.

How are these ranked? That information seems to be missing.
I don't really understand how Index can still be at #2 despite having ended many months ago. Unless they're referring to New Testament?

The rankings are from internet polls, according to Wikipedia. The cover shown for Index is a New Testament volume so I assume they're being lumped together; it is basically the same story with a new subtitle.

I'm rather surprised Haruhi is so low on the list.

How can you be surprised? The author abandoned it for four years. Rankings are a fickle thing. You can't expect it to stay just as popular as it was back in 2006.

It's not that rare for a series to go a long time with no new installments and still remain immensely popular *glances at Evangelion*

Also, Harry Potter (novels) had a 3-year break, and it still topped the charts.
Some types of audience are just fickle too.

Actually, Haruhi fell off the top 10 completely in 2009 and 2010. A new release does wonders for bringing back fandom, I guess.
