Think "lighter than air". Think Zeppelin.

But seriously, the distinction that seems to be in force in K-ON is pop music, including rock-and-roll, as opposed to classical music in the broad sense, baroque through 20-th century art music, and probably also as opposed to traditional Japanese music -- shamisen, koto, biwa, and so forth. (Although I can totally imagine Mugi on koto, and Mio on shamisen, I'm not so sure about Yui and Ritsu.)

Rock 'n rollers would smash their guitars on anyone who calls their music "light music." Laughing
