I read the second article in the guardian online and thought it was fair.

This is like comparing apples with oranges. Basically it's saying each has their own style. Now a real comparison would be if Ghibli did something like Cars, and Pixar did something like....um....Kiki's Delivery Service? But I suppose the fact that a paper like the Guardian is even giving any mention about anything anime related is noteworthy in itself.
