It's nice to see that this might be the start of an upward trend for the series, since the first two episodes are probably the weakest consecutive episodes of the whole series. Heck, the second half of the Madoka Magica is stronger than an already generally strong first half. Wonder what the total number sold in the first week will be come the release of volume 6...

Hopefully figures like this will entice somebody to pick it up for release over here too.

It's more a question of Aniplex deciding if it wants to release PMMM itself or get the committees involved with PMMM to lower the asking price for home video rights to a reasonable level.

Honestly, I'm thinking Aniplex will eventually release Bakemonogatari and PMMM on its own, though that will depend on how well the DRRR!! sets have been doing, as that would be a decent indicator of the R1 market.

Proud, proud owner right here! :3 My first imports and they're worth it! Looking forward to hearing who is getting the rights for a US release.

Argh! I'm torn on whether to import these or not! Do you think they'll release the soundtracks separately later?

Good job, if it gets localized I'll buy that version to. I love the soundtrack but it is getting expensive, yet worth it. Razz

Got my volume 2 also. I hope it gets localized also, but buying the Japanese BD since the odds are low it will be brought over.

It was down played by the US anime news during its TV run, and despite its strong BD sales many still say it doesn't deserve the hype.

Only wished the BD's had english subs.

Cool that you bought it. However, I don't think the odds of it being licensed are that low, now... you saw how Aniplex USA talked about how there were ongoing negotiations regarding the licensing & release of Madoka Magica and Bakemonogatari, right? At least something was positively said along those lines.

By downplayed, you mean it was undermined by the opinions of a couple ANN staff members that only saw the first episode or two? And dude, this series has probably gotten more U.S. coverage online than any other anime that premiered the first quarter of 2011. Have you tried Japanator, or other anime news sites? There's been plenty of stuff said about the series here.

"Many" people can say so-and-so about anything; "many" may say that they think that Evangelion is over-hyped or that Fullmetal Alchemist isn't as "good" as others say, but does that really get in the way of their overall standing and commercial success? Anyway, the fan reaction appears so overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic that the noticeably quieter opinion that it "doesn't deserve the hype" hardly ends up mattering. The biggest hurdle that the show will face for success among U.S. consumers is that it looks like a cutesy magical girl show from the outset.

Aniplex didn't do it for Kara no Kyokai (same publisher, same way of releasing OST with limited edition DVD), but they released a "music collection", kind of "best of" in march 2011 (however Kara no Kyokai also has a lot more tracks than Madoka will have, probably).

After all they are using the soundtrack to get people to buy the limited DVD/BD. This is Soundtrack I, but it is a lot shorter than normal soundtrack CDs, so they will probably include Soundtrack II with another DVD/BD (vol. 4) and maybe even Soundtrack III (vol. 6).

So, I wouldn't count on it, and certainly not that soon.
