That's one thing I don't get about Japan. It's JUST weed. Yet the consequences are EXTREMELY severe.

Very true on that note. I remember when Arashi of All Japan Pro Wrestling got fired for smoking weed. But Japan's drug laws are pretty strict on a lot of stuff, especially marijuana. But, when you read stuff like Yakuza: Japan's Criminal Underworld, ice (a term for meth) seems to be the choice of drug for Japan.

Agreed. But now he has to deal with a lot of craziness over something as asinine as a drug charge. Most celebs usually keep this sort of thing private, but once that bag dropped out of his pocket, all hell breaks loose when he tries to get it back. But given his admission of guilt, mercy could be exhibited in this case.

The most dangerous risk of any drug (weed, cocaine, etc.) is impaired awareness, which could lead to other hazards. Besides that, marijuana doesn't carry the stigma that other illicit substances possess. If Kosuga decided to do it in Amsterdam or L.A., he mostly be safe. When in Rome...

Japan is like Singapore in its drug strictness. But Japanese courts are very merciful when you admit and make a bow apology. Besides, it's all just suspended sentences anyways.

Way to go, Japan! Get the dumb drug addicts!
If only every country were as strict about drugs as Japan, the world would be a much better place...

When a foreigner is convicted of a drug charge, they are deported and placed on the no-fly-to-Japan list, thus effective banned from the country, like Paris Hilton. I wonder how they treat citizens.

You know, before I found out about Japan's apparently strict stance against drugs, I would've pegged it as being a place with quite a cannabis culture.

No, it would be the opposite. Drug cartels would be everywhere.
