I would disagree that art is meaningless. Art is a form of expression, just as language is, and is perhaps more powerful. It can calm a troubled soul and put a smile on a persons face in trying times. It can give an artist an outlet that he or she may not otherwise have, and it may be the artists' most effective means of communicating with the world. It may, perhaps, give the audience a glimpse of other ways of seeing the world, and broaden their perspective. These are not small things.

These artists efforts may not clear rubble or rebuild roads, but if they can help make people feel better then they have done a good thing. And feeling better can be pretty hard to do when your world has crumbled around you.

The moral support that many of the artists have been giving through their drawings and music isn't measurable (or have that "meaning") that money does.

I can see why some would be upset or see it as a waste that a fundraising aspect hasn't been attached to such a bundle of vibrant talent.
