Wow Eva blows everything else away with even the previous movie the only one on the list released last year being the sixth most sold japanese produced animation.
Otherwise why are the total sales so low? I know dvd's/blu-ray's are really expensive in japan but I would have thought there were more anime buyers than these sales lists show. |

I'd pick Gundam over anything else on the list.

EDIT: Never mind, that chart is Blu-Ray and DVD sales combined, not just BD./EDIT.
Shouldn't Angel Beats volume 1 be on that chart? I've seen another chart (of the popularity of new anime series from Autumn 2009 through Summer 2010 based on first volume sales) that showed it just edging out the first volume of K-On!! for the most popular new series of Spring 2010 (and most popular new series of the four seasons listed) with 40,442 units sold versus 39,781 units for the first volume of K-On!!. The fact that the Macross Frontier movie BD is not on the list pretty much tells me that it's just plain wrong.

The Macross F movie BD is distributed as a Playstation 3 game rather than through video BD channels, so it won't be counted with video BD sales. |

You mean the game with about 1 total hour of playtime?
Nobody bought it for the game. Hence why this list is wrong. |

The Macross Frontier film sold 152,000 Blu-ray Discs just in its first week of sales. However, since Bandai Namco Games sold the film/game hybrid disc through game retail channels instead of the traditional Blu-ray Disc retail channel, it did not appear in Oricon's Blu-ray Disc rankings charts. If it did, it would have been at least #4. |
