Yeah, this whole thing was completely off my radar until this came up.

Excuse me? I have 'warped DNA' for watching and reading things like Junjou Romantica or B Gata H Kei? I was under the fact that I followed the law like everyone else, as well as contributing to my community in any way that I can. We don't need to be glorifying rape or crime, but no matter what we take away or do, it's going to exist. It's just that now everyone's going to get really sneaky about it. And it seems late-night TV isn't going to work anymore over there.

Also, sorry if this causes an issue, but what does this mean exactly for the U.S. market? Will we see less licenses or just less material to license altogether?

He then characterized people who read and write the restricted material as "sad people with warped DNA."

"sad people with warped DNA".. So, he is saying some people are born with tendencies to make super violence/perverted material? People who read such material also have the super criminal behavior and perverted genetic material? (The ultimate pervert gene sounds kind of catchy. Er, well, more like a cheesy hentai excuse plot.)

Seriously, "sad people with warped _____". Replace it with personality, preferences, eating habits, anything else. DNA seems like a ridiculous thing to blame it on in my opinion.

I guess it's just an exaggerated expression.

This is totally in character for him. If you check out Shintaro Ishihara's page of wikipedia, you can get a whole host of quotes pointing out his bigotry and hypocrisy.

He's denied any atrocities the Japanese committed in WWII, he hates gays and women, and he hates foreigners and Koreans.

Ironically, just a few years back, he was trying to spearhead the movement to promote anime abroad, because it was superior to Disney and other animation due to its pure Japaneseness.

He's a truly loathsome character, and Japan and Tokyo should be ashamed he's been able to keep his job for so long.

Ah, I was wondering why I was so fascinated with Ore no Imouto. I must have warped DNA!

Mutant master race reporting in.

Yeah, this whole situation is very amusing to me and I can't wait to see how it plays out. This guy is crazy.

It is sad to see people with responsibility to go and publicly insult lots of people on a genetic level.

Besides, I think anything can incite criminal behaviour if you just got the right person to read it, just regulating creative freedom is like trying to sweep the problems under the rug.

Trolling on the government level... Apparently not only homosexuals are genetically defective and miserable in his book (no pun intended).

So, if I have warped DNA, does that mean I still get my smut?

Just curious. Smile

He's a novelist, a politician, and now a geneticist?

Somewhere I saw a funny video somewhere of him trying to justify destroying a forest for one of his pet projects by saying the mountain was evil and eats children. I wish I could find it again; I don't think anyone would take this kook seriously again after seeing it.

I'd rather not delve too much into politics at all, but I was about to ask if there were any other pieces of legislation being debated outside of Japan in regards to this. I've spoken before about, for instance, the heavy filtering my library does as to which series goes in which section after parents complain. This sort of thing happens because people usually assume all comics are for kids, and they get placed in the children's section, which are then taken out by kids who's parents complain. I was afraid that kind of thinking could influence lawmakers.
