I really wish a specifically Pancreatic Cancer charity had been linked. Not that all cancer research isn't massively valuable because of course it is. However Pancreatic Cancer gets a really small amount of funding despite being, if I recall correctly, the fifth most common cancer and one of the most fast acting and virulent.
If anyone is interested here are some: http://www.pancan.jp/ Pancreatic Cancer Japan http://www.pancan.org/ The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (US) http://www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca/ Pancreatic Cancer Canada http://www.pancreaticcanceraction.org/ Pancreatic Cancer Action (UK) |

I would love to see a Satoshi Kon Foundation that can dedicate to do research to Pancreatic cancer just like how Michael J Fox Foundation was set up to help with Parkinson's Disease research. |

Crunchyroll has also front-paged this: In Memorium of Satoshi Kon

I'm afraid no dub = no buy for me.

Just a clarification here: we've specifically worked ANN and Crunchyroll to get the word out initially, and we're encouraging everyone to participate.
This is NOT about Otakon -- this is about honoring Kon. We're honored that Madhouse trusted us to help set this up. |

I'm putting something together this weekend. I'm so thrilled about the way the fan community is responding, and all these different groups are working together to honor Satoshi Kon's legacy. Really awesome!
Many thanks to ANN, Crunchyroll, Otakon, and MADHOUSE. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with Satoshi Kon's family. EDIT: It blows me away that of all the investigations into personality, identity, and reality that Satoshi Kon created he hadn't yet had time to put together his statement on death and the afterlife. It especially blows me away after reading the translation of his final blog entry and hearing about his own personal near death experiences around the time he was struggling not only with his cancer but also pneumonia. Satoshi Kon, a serious hero and unparalleled talent. You will be missed. Last edited by gartholamundi on Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:35 pm; edited 1 time in total |

There are a number of charities that would be suitable -- give to the one that you're most comfortable with. I wanted to make sure, however, that we pointed people toward agencies that were thoroughly vetted. Unfortunately none of the agencies that specialize in pancreatic cancer were among the top rated charities. (A quick glance at the US organization you list above shows that nearly half of their revenues goes to pay salaries.) As for a foundation, it's a lovey idea, but that usually requires a significant starting endowment. Sadly, Kon worked in an industry where most of the workers are at or below the poverty line, and a significant portion of its fans don't pay for what they watch. Even critically successful directors aren't exactly rolling in excess cash. |

Sorry, my sig seems to have disappeared. I'm Jim Vowles. I'm a past Otakon board member, a former con chair, and have headed up our guest, industry, and press relations section since 2007. Otakon and Madhouse have had very good relations for some time; I've had the privilege of working with Madhouse for almost a decade now, and had met Satoshi Kon several times. |

I'll have to write a letter.
This would be a lot easier if most of his work wasn't OOP. The prices on Paranoia Agent are ridiculous. When the hell are you going to pick this up FUNi? If I'm going to be spreading the word to my friends I would like for them to be able to easily view them. Well, Netflix does have them to rent... for now. |

... Well then, I suppose you'll still be able to buy quite a few of his works and spread them around, if you haven't already. Unfortunately, there are no dubs for cancer-fighting charities out right now that you'll be able to buy. Even though it's been two months already, I continue to mourn the loss of this great director... No, mourn is too strong of a word to use, especially since I did not know him personally, and the only link was his movies. I suppose I was able to know him just a bit more because of his movies.... Either way, I'll continue spreading awareness of him and this cancer. EDIT: Oh yeah. I completely forgot that most of his works are OOP. At least they're easy to find and not too expensive (other than Paranoia Agent). |

Gentry: Most of these titles-except for maybe Paranoia Agent-may not be picked up, if there's no significant demand for 'em. So this is probably the best domestic version of his stuff we're gonna get right now.
Anyway, I can only hope Nolan and Aronofsky send their regards, too. Last edited by GATSU on Thu Oct 28, 2010 11:23 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Does it really matter whether his works are dubbed or not? This is a project to promote the works of Satoshi Kon and express how much he will be missed. If some of us participated then maybe some of his works will get dubbed eventually so it may be viewed to a wider audience. Although I would not count on it happening any time soon. |
