He was involved with Nippon Animation ever since he founded it back in 1962, and ever since he remained the company's president. That is almost unheard of in anime or even film production circles, and should be noted in the article (that he founded the studio and kept it running for almost 50 years). World Masterpiece Theater will continue to be amongst the most visionary and truly exemplary anime series in existence (still running strong, I might add).

So many losses in the anime field this year, and once again,
this is one which is not minor. Nippon, besides working on
the revered World Masterpiece Theater series, also produced
excellent shows such as Votoms, not to mention contributing
different sound and visual work for countless other projects
(such as the music production for Patlabor the Movie 2). It's
sad to see the head of such a legendary outfit pass, and my
heart goes out to all those close to the man.

This death, among the others this year, is firmly cementing my
belief that the old generation of anime creators is beginning to
draw to a close, and it's up to new, fresh blood to keep alive the
legendary vein of work by studios such as Nippon,
and directors such as Satoshi Kon, and to invigorate the medium.

Rest in peace, Motohashi-san.

I know almost nothing about the man himself, but a few of the works he produced remain among my childhood memories and thus he clearly deserves some posthumous gratitude in addition to my offer of condolences for his friends and family.
