I don't know. It's great that it will be on Rightstuf. That right there is a huge improvement and means that at least I will be able to buy it. Still, I have to wonder about not making this available to any other online stores. Especially after they've sprung for a dub I have to question not even getting it on Amazon.

While I mainly use Right Stuf for anime purchases now, I feel bad for people like Robert from Anime Corner Store. Every month he complains about how his store is getting shafted by publishers and every month a publisher does something like this that shows he isn't lying.

Anyway, that R.O.D. collection already has a place on my shelves. Such an amazing OVA, and the series was very enjoyable too.

[edit]
Holy shit, I didn't realize Bandai Visual was releasing this. $40 for nine episodes and $160 for R.O.D.(and you can't use coupons or discounts). I don't mean to be a cheap ass but damn that's high.

More importantly, we can pre-order all three volumes (still think they should have gone with only two) at once. I smell free shipping. Smile

Well, now that I know when Durarara comes out in America I know how long I'll have to wait for the dub after the I pick up the DVDs which begin coming out over here in October.

I really love DRRR!!, but I"m having to face the fact that I'm going to be paying $120 to get the entire series!

Didn't this business model already, like,... fail in the mid 2000's? The three "box sets" are really obfuscations for the tired "singles" model that made collecting anime cost prohibitive. Welcome to the bad (expensive) old days!

I'm kind of feeling like I'm getting suckered here....

I presume that the DVD version will get re-released at some point. I'm not sure whether or not it's a license that Funi rescued from Geneon (but hasn't released).

You weren't buying anime back when you joined the ANN forums? According to the TRSI page for the second TV DVD, the release date for that disc was more than two years after you hooked up with ANN. You had plenty of opportunity, and even if no one relicenses it, there should be a few used DVD sets showing up here and there as people buy the BD release. Good luck! I don't think that I liked RoD enough to rebuy it, so you can't have my DVDs. ^_^

Well, some of Funi's /2 season boxsets are $60 and Sentai's are 50$, so 100-120 bucks for a complete with a new dub isn't unheard of. It also matches up with what Bandai's been charging at retail for their sets.

Aniplex better keep their print run really low, otherwise they're gonna end up with a shitload of unsold box sets sitting in a warehouse somewhere...

*eyes bug out @ the price on the ROD set* Yeah, somehow I don't think they will be selling too many of those except to diehard collectors who are also diehard ROD fans. The show is several years old at this point, so I don't imagine that there are too many people around willing to shell out $160.

The Durarara price seems more reasonable. Yeah, it's a little high, but not astronomically so. This is a fairly new show with a dub that has not aleady been released here, so the price seems more justified.
