Does this get better as it goes on, by the way? I watched the first 2-3 episodes and was bored.

36000 yen? Time for JP companies to stop smoking crack. I'll wait for Funi's inevitable Blu ray.

Yes it does. Unfortunately, it doesn't get really good until episodes 10-12. And then it's uphill from there.

Some people think the opposite. The ones who don't like loli characters particularly.

I loved the first half of the series but I couldn't care less about Cal.

Im confused, does that mean the english dub that is going to be released by Funimation is the one they are releasing in Japan now? Or is it like those crappy animax-asia english dubs?

I was just starting to think about that as well.

Cause of guidelines , it wont include the Funi dubs, so i am preety sure it'll be the other alt, the japaneese sudio that owns it will probably do it's own dub and subtitles.

Preety sure they wont resort to animax-asia. That co is like the asian version of 4kids when it comes to anime.

It ( Animax-asia ) either needs to go bely under OR has to be acquired by an english co that knows how to treat anime right like CN ( Cartoon Network ) or it's sister counterpart AS ( Adult Swim ) so it can salvage it's reputation as well as the rep of English dubs in Asia.

I think the fact it's coming out in early 2011 here means it wouldn't be surprising if it was apart of the license with Funimation or some such.

I think it's cool Japan is having more releases which are import friendly, even if it's just an 'extra' to them.

Yeah, very much a matter of opinion in Phantom's case. It picked up for me in the second half, I'd say. It's an odd show, though.

This whole dub business is strange. I have to imagine it's the Funimation dub that will be appearing via some means.

Let's not be too hasty now. Animax English dub talent almost uniformly stinks--with rare exceptions qualifying as mediocre--but Animax does a great deal more to take care of anime than [as] or CN do, by virtue of being a 24-hour anime channel (that carries a number of near-simulcast titles). They're perfectly fine for subbed stuff too.

Oh well at least now we have a reason as to why Phantom isn't getting a FUNi BD release at the time the DVD is going to be released.

Well, both Japan and FUNi's release is technically "early 2011". So it could be FUNi's dub. But then it makes me wonder if FUNi will be able to release it on BD. I don't recall if they got those rights. For all we know, Japan may say no so that they don't have to worry about reverse importation. Or they could stick it to us and just allow FUNi to release a dub-only BD...

Is this show even native HD? Or is this just an upscale?

Funi I think has never stated that they had the rights to a BD release. I'm not sure if people assumed Funi did and whatnot but Japan having a boxset w/ english and japanese dub does hammer down the possibility of us not getting a BD release and instead just DVD release. I don't want this to be similar to Kurokami BD where its just Eng Dub only which really sucks.
I wonder why they made the US and Japan have the same Bluray region code, if it wasnt for that than reverse importation wouldn't be much of an issue especically since the price difference seems to be the big factor.

Phantom is one of the most HD shows in recent memory and deserves to have a BD release more than many other shows.

Greatest news in a while.
