Considering that home media is going through a transition, I see it as a good sign that physical media will be around for a good while yet.

Yes. Indeed, adding in the report that total revenues to Japanese studios dropped in the same period, either international animation is taking a growing slice of the Japanese market, overseas licensing revenues to Japanese studios is dropping, or both.

luffypirate85 has mentioned quite a few times in the past he buys Japanese releases. I do as well, so that does help the "domestic" market.

if they would at least put subtitles on blu-ray anime, I would buy it, would love to see a subbed version of ladies versus butlers on blu-ray

There's very few titles I would pay $35 for 1 hour of anime.
