Why is "mindless fan service" in the positive column? Even if one were to consider fan service to be a good thing, throwing the word mindless in front definitely makes it sound negative.

Sounds worthwhile...

I'm looking forward to watching this! It's good to see some raw character drama every once in a while.
Nothing shows a person's true colors like staring Death in the face!!!

My only irk is that the manga is still going and that means a forced ending.

Key likes mindless fanservice and shows which include it, which is why it is listed as a positive. Of course, depending your view of fanservice, your mileage may vary.

As for me, despite being a huge zombie movie/game fan, I just couldn't enjoy the first two episodes of this. And I didn't feel like paying the subscription to see any more after that.

I don't know about an "A-," but this is definitely a better show than it might seem at first glance. Heck, it's probably better than it really should be.

Watching TAN's streams gives you a very censored version of the show. Episode 6 was pretty much exactly the same as the manga, expectations full met there. And if you haven't read the manga, of course you don't know what you're in for as far as fanservice. For those who did, the straight adaptation that TV series is doing is pleasing. I just hope the DVD release adds the amount of nudity the manga had.

It should. They typically do, after all.

Personally, I was hoping the fanservice would be toned down quite a lot for the anime version, as I'm really not a fan of it (in any anime/manga), but it's still this season's best anime even with it.

Madhouse has also taken heat from Korean fans for prominent use of a zombified version of a popular Korean drama star in episode 5.
Anyone know who, offhand? (No, I'm not willing to watch it to find out for myself, just curious)

Edit: Oh, it's Bae Yong-joon. Shoulda guessed.

It's a delightfully trashy show. Nothing spectacular but good fun and, as you said, well executed. Sometimes that all one can ask for.

surprisingly strong writing.

I didn't realize having characters act out tired archetypes like 'tsundere girl' and 'fanservice nurse' constituted strong writing.

Seriously, this is the most overrated show of the season. The characters are unlikeable cliches, the pacing is awful, the story has no consistency, and the continuity is all over the map. Hell, the first episode alone had enough plot holes to make it laughable. If the first infectee turn into a zombie in a matter of seconds, why does Hisashi's infection progress slowly enough for him to say tearful goodbyes to his friends? How can you possibly explain such a glaring error? Uh.... OH LOOK PANTY SHOT!

This show thinks it can get away with shoddy characterization and bad writing by bombarding us with enough fanservice to keep us distracted. It's insulting.

Theron is just very kind guy, so I can not be really angry at him. However, there is almost always way to check more strict opinion -- that is to see public's average rating of the show. Which is, in turn, almost always one score point better than "reality".

For example, for this show the average rating is "good". Which means to me that the show is not actually good, but rather no better than just "decent".

Nah, I'm not angry at him. Everybody has the right to their opinion. I just respectfully disagree with his review. Anime smile

It would be more accurate to say I'm angry at the show's creators. A zombie-themed anime could have been something amazing, but they churned out a juvenile and cliched series instead.

The first episode really did blow me away in a lot of ways, but I too am concerned about the possible forced ending since the manga is ongoing, although that too has been licensed.

Here's something that kind of bugs me. There are so many countless zombie stories and movies—surely in the worlds of said stories, there must still be zombie movies. Even if you haven’t seen a zombie movie, you would know the basic deal of what happens in them. So how is it, in almost every single zombie story there is, the characters never figure out from the very start that they all they have to do is hit or shoot a zombie in the head to kill it? Why do they almost always take the long, hard way in figuring that out? Assuming that zombie movies don’t exist in these worlds, how then would they know to call these creatures ‘zombies’? Just a rant I felt like giving.

So far, every episodes has followed the manga, but the manga has like 26 chapters, how are they going to fit everything in there? If they aren't, are they gonna have some kind of a forced end or complete change in storyline?
