Ugh, the past two days have been nothing but dreadful news. The death of Frank Frazetta, layoffs at Viz, and now THIS. What's next, the bankruptcy of Funimation?

... well DAYUM... this is some crappy news. I liked their work, if this means they're gone (which it really looks like) I'm going to be depressed...

Called it, I had a feeling when I heard the forums were down last month.
This is troubled times people, but hopefully the manga and anime industry will ride through with this. This is unfortunate, but sadly this is reality.

Now this is bad. Well, I am glad they finished After School Nightmare and Her Majesty's Dog. Hopefully some other company will pick up or rescue some of their titles. I so want to see more of Cantarella.

Well, I'm definitely going to try and complete Afterschool Nightmare at Anime North before it's gone for good. Shame that this company is closing.

This sucks. Now I actually will have to commit digital theft since I can no longer buy 07-ghost!

Heh, if only enough people put enough effort buying it as scanlating it, then you needn't worry about that.

I'll wait a little bit to see how the chips have fallen, but I'm guessing I'll have to brush up on my French or German to finish Crown. (-.-)
Sympathies for anyone who's out of a job when all's said & done…

Noooo!! It's no wonder 07-Ghost volumes 4 and up haven't shown up in my stores, let alone Cantarella!! Man! I was just beginning to plan buying some of their manga too! Great, now another good manga licensing company is dead!

Lessons to take from Go Comi's passing-

Don't commit digital theft. If I were you, I'd wait for someonelse to license rescue it, and buy other cool manga from the remaining publishers so they stick around while you wait. I know a certain aggregator was posting some of their titles- as in posting scans OF THEIR ACTUAL BOOKS, not just "scanlations", one of the things mentioned on their "we're having issues" update a few months ago.

That's why you buy a series ASAP, rather then waiting until it's finished- it needs you support now, not later. I imagine you personally did your best to support them, mind you, but this is the issue with a lot of manga w/poor sales- so many people who could be buying them aren't
Go Comi was a great company with helpful employees who sent fantastic support packages to our convention a few times. They had great production values, a nice licensing sensibility, and it's a shame they got caught up in the horrible phenomenon of the moment where the economies horrible, and a large sector fans don't really care at all about manga and anime companies

*sigh* It's sad...They did have a few niche titles, too.
Hopefully someone will pick up 07-Ghost, seeing as it was a better seller for them. Hopefully Yen Press, though even VIZ would be fine. I would like to buy it.

If Funimation ever goes bankrupt, I'm guessing it would be the end of the world for Anime, for me

Back in January, I read an admin's post on that forum saying that 07-Ghost was very popular and kept selling out as soon as they had volumes reprinted. I have no idea how large each print run was, but it certainly sounded like a title that wasn't suffering overmuch from scanlations or volume scans. It'd be nice to get a rescue for this one.

I can never figure out the scanlation schedule for that one anyway so I was really glad to see it was licensed. Better swing by the bookstores to make sure I didn't miss any of those volumes and to pick up a copy of Japan Ai. Really wonder what happened there, sounds like no news is bad news in this industry.

Frank Frazetta's work and profound artistic mastery of the female form will live forever.
