Oh... oh no. I'm not one to gripe about how editing "ruins" anime, but in the case of 4Kids, an exception should be made. Their past versions of shows have been terrible, such as "Magical DoReMi", and their unfortunate version of "Shaman King." Having "Dragon Ball Z Kai" in their hands is an honor that they may very well tarnish with their trademark hackneyed editing. Sure, it may not be as bad as the early versions of "DBZ" that debuted here in the early-to-mid nineties (some of which I think were handled by Saban, but I'm not sure), but still...

Well, let's just hope for the best, fellow DBZ nerds! Anime smile

Oh, yes, by the way: FIRST!

Is this the grade you're now entering, because only grade school students do this sort of thing.

Now on topic:
So, will it be assumed the "Kai" will be defined as "Poorly edited and grossly cropped"?

I've no desire to see the 4kids offering, especially since I've yet to see Dragonball completely. How many boxsets are there of this series? 4? Yeah, that's a boatload of cash but I'm willing. I always loved watching the scant episodes I saw on Cartoon "We're blowing it like 4Kids" Network.

End rant transmission.

4Kids Entertainment has reached agreement with FUNimation Entertainment and Toei Animation Co., Ltd., to license the U.S. broadcast television rights to the new animated television series "Dragon Ball Z Kai".

4kids has the broadcast rights, but FUNi's still dubbing it. It's got all the FUNi voice actors. Which means at the very least, it won't get the un-subtle 4kids screaming voices treatment. Shouldn't have to change the music, either.
Blood will have to be censored, but the fighting can all stay. One Piece and Shaman King did terribly, yes, but that's because 4kids did a terrible job marketing them. DBZ is well-known already. The only editing thing I'm really concerned about is dying and coming back. No way. Hopefully with FUNi it won't be as cheesy as the "shadow realm", but I don't know what else they'll do.

Wait what? This makes no sense

Funimation already made a deal with Nicktoons, why the hell would they go to 4kids a bunch of incompetent morons who will skip episodes and take out most of the fighting.

How could they? Literally, you can't make a deal with both 4kids and Viacom.

While the deal with Viacom might have fell through they did make a commercial for the thing so that is weird.

Well, in all fairness, the edits on Cartoon Network got significantly lessened when the series progressed into the Buu saga; they didn't totally alter personalities or things such as that, so they were never as bad as 4Kids, per se.

And as for your grade school comment? Eh, pretty funny. I had that coming lol

Oh, yeah, that was filler, wasn't it? One less thing to edit, I suppose.

Well, I was being kinda harsh. You have an excellent point; I grew up on edited stuff (the edited "Outlaw Star", "Cardcaptors", the butchered "Tenchi Muyo"), and it ended up serving as a worthy gateway to bigger and better things. So while it may be unfortunate to see shows get edited, perhaps it's for the better so kids can get into it, and the new generation can become hooked, just like I did on Toonami.
