Avatar came out later than the cutoff and has only made $14m or so, so it's not even close. One Piece Strong World is a lot closer at the moment with over $32m.

I think the surprise would be if it didn't. Eva is huge in Japan, but Pokemon is even bigger...
Nice to see Okuribito up there, it was a top notch production that deserved its tickets...^^

I'm glad that final 20th Century Boys movie did well. I have the first one on DVD and look forward to collecting the other two.
The manga is the best manga I've ever read.

This list reminds me that I need to see Okuribito.
I'm also curious about the 20th Century Boys movies. I should probably read more than one volume of the manga first.

The difference is that EVA fans are loners, while Pokemon brats usually drag their whole family along.

Don't forget that the Pokemon movie was on three times as many screens as Eva 2.0
Still, real happy to see 20th Century Boys and Eva 2.0 did well.

Man, NO accounting for taste. I tried to watch Rookies on the plane to Singapore, and it was unwatchable. I bailed at the 10 minute mark.

mj's this is it was the best animé of the year, even though it is not animé... mj himself looked like animé character, so it counts...
