Those types of shows always get me...right here...right in the heart. I'm almost tearing already.

Well, I haven't watched many of the shows that are being referenced or parodied, but that doesn't mean it isn't funny.

Brilliant. I love those old, depressing shows... Nothing quite like the suffering of children...

Ah, the kind of stuff I used to watch dubbed in Afrikaans back in the day, without so much as a clue that it even came from Japan. Razz

I agree with this weeks Anime News Nina. Shows like that always make me regret picking it up in the first place. Reminds me of my time with Now and Then, Here and There.

Remi, Dog of Flanders, Anne of Green Gables, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, Heidi too perhaps...

Kids need to start watching this stuff again. Unlike Spongebob, this cartoons build character! Anime hyper

I'm not really sure that there's anything to agree with here. It was Nina going through emotions while watching a typical depressing kids anime from the 80's. She wasn't questioning her purchase at the end there, but reacting to the tragic death.

Great comic.

Oh god, Remi, you just need one reference to it and one only here and both otakus and housewives eyes start filling with tears. I found the whole series on dvd... I'm tempted...

It's the "Dog of Flanders" recast with a hedgehog instead of a dog and a boy who wants to make shoes instead of paintings. Poor Grandfather though... His part didn't change; he still has to die. Hehe. Wink

Ugh, I still remember those shows. The dog of Flanders was too much for me. But kids nowadays don't know what real anime is... (keeps on grumbling...)
