Woah. Well, as always, this could rock or suck. This really wouldn't make a bad film, but it might take a talented director to make it stand out enough.

But Clover was never completed. I have a bad feeling about this.

I'm boycotting everything CLAMP until they finish X/1999.

If it was Dark Horse who brought this up to Universal, then I don't think they'd bring something somewhat unfinished without having some good ideas.

My jaw just hit the floor.

Though.. I have to wonder how. The manga is one of the most poetic and floaty and not traditionally cinematic comics I've seen. Mack's Kabuki is another one that comes to mind. Not that it's unfilmable, but you need to find the right makers. Someone that can do poetic and dreamlike like Michael Gondry or Darren Aronfosky.

While anime/manga/video game movie adaptations are certainly not uncommon these days, I doubt anyone could have told you to expect something like this. Totally out of left field.

I think (if done right) Clover would make a really good movie. The manga has such a cinematic look to it, after all. As for the manga not being completed yet, maybe Clamp could work with the film producers to make a satisfactory ending that would be unique to the movie, like they did with the X movie and TV series. Speaking of which, I'd *really* like to see Clamp finish X and Legal Drug even more than I want them to finish Clover.

If done right I think this will actually be a really cool movie to watch. But that will depend if the director can get the right look for the film version.

I thought I read somewhere that CLAMP drew the layouts for Clover as if it was a storyboard? Am I making that up? Did I dream that?

I remember hearing that too. Don't remember where/when, though.

The steampunky (or whatever the word for them is) designs could look good if done well, but it seems an odd choice for a movie, especially considering how little actual story there is to work with.

I'd heard that, that's the main reason why I never tried to read Clover despite how interesting it sounds. I don't think I could stand it not having an ending.

Hmm...

=O

I'm not sure how they would handle the story, but I think they have the potential to make it look visually amazing.
