I'm sort of glad that you brought up the decompressed style of this series; its been driving me insane in recent chapters (read online, I admit), because very, very little happens in each chapter, and you have to wait a month in between them.

My advice to fans? Read the volumes as they come out in English. It's much, much less aggravating because you get a chunk at once. I've decided to disavow reading this one online and just stick to checking out each volume nice and legal, to avoid the frustration. Sometimes, it pays to wait.

I'll never understand all the praise that the art of Vampire Knight gets. Sure, it's decadent enough, and looks nice if you're into this style, but all characters look the same (okay, girls have larger eyes and smaller bodies) and they all have the exact same expression almost all the time.

Nah, women's love of vampires has nothing to do with awakening sexual desires or puberty. Vampire romances are the number one paranormal romances among women of all ages; they simply have a huge appeal across the board. Why? Because vampires are the ultimate alpha male heroes. They're bigger and badder than any human male, they're primal in their sexuality (blood's involved!), and they offer the woman they love super powers sot she can rightfully rise above all the others like a queen.

Plus they're emo to the max, and nothing grabs a teenage girl's attention like that. ^-^;

Psht, real vampires aren't emo. And other than Zero (who is emo embodied), none of the vampires in Vampire Knight are; they're all disturbingly okay with blood-sucking and killing, and don't particularly angst about it.

The "primal sexuality" thing is closer to it. While the original vampires in most cultures aren't particularly sexualized (they're walking corpses, and rather disgusting), ever since the Victorian era, people have looked at vampirism as a metaphor for sexuality. Not only are "bites" like kisses, but penetrating the skin is like... well, you know. Add in some kinky blood-play, and you have a whole set of forbidden erotic overtones.

And if you take feeding as a metaphor for sex (which is what it's clearly intended to be in this series, at least most of the time), then everyone in Vampire Knight is screwing all over the place, a rather big contrast to Twilight, where of course Edward doesn't bite Bella until after they're married (if you know what I mean Wink ).

I must say girls aren't the only ones attracted to vampires, I'm as well but for female vampires of course, not emo ones though.

Ditto. And I'm not convinced ninjagal6 is right on this one. While plotwise either would make sense, given the Big Revelation in this volume, you'd think it would have to be Kaname and Yuki.

I'm pretty sure it's Kaname and Yuuki. It would make more sense because the volume focuses on them and they are major characters. I can understand the confusion though. Kaname and Shiki are cousins so it would make sense for them to look alike. As for the embrace between Zero and Ichiru; it's not meant to be romantic but it does foreshadow an upcoming event in the story. There is incest in Vampire Knight but not between those two.

I think Sleep is for the weak summed this up the best when they said: "Vampire Knight is Melodrama Porn. Just like those old martial arts films from the 70’s are King Fu Porn and those “how-to” dessert magazines at the grocery check-out are Food Porn."

Everything in this series is pure drama that plays out in such a way that can only beget more drama. But for some reason, I can't stop reading it despite. It's just so.... enthralling.

Anyways, there's something just so horrifyingly sinister about Kaname that this volume more than any other before it really drove home. The scene where Yuki meets him for lunch just ran a chill down my spine. Normally I adore antagonistic or decidedly malicious characters, but something about his controlling and manipulative air just really makes me hate him. And I have to say, I applaud Matsuri Hino for that. I don't know that I'm supposed to hate him, but the fact that she was able to give him such a chilling atmosphere is definitely an impressive feat.

And on that note, I miss Zero being the actual main character (I know he was never supposed to be, but for a while, he really was). As a staunch Zero supporter, I hope things turn out well for him, but I can't wait to see how everything unfolds as everything inevitably takes a turn for the worst.

I wish I could hate this story, as it's technically nothing special and filled with things I normally hate, but the execution just makes it so impossible to put down. It's going to be a long wait for volume 8.

If you think you hate Kaname now, manafairy, just wait till you find out how Kaname's been using Zero for his own purposes. (Though you may figured that out already.) Actually I think Zero is supposed to be the main character/ hero of this story. Think about it. Kaname is the prince/king, Yuuki is the princess, so Zero being the "vampire knight" is the most logical. It'll become even more obvious in the next chapter or so. And keep reading, it's going to get better. spoiler[Though once Kaname and Yuuki hook up, you'll have to endure some stomach-churning romance scenes between them at least once a chapter.]

Okay, I guess I better stop now. Be prepared for the wrath of the Kaname and Yuuki fans. Nice to encounter another Zero fan.

Oh, about the spoiler[Kaname/Yuuki hookup. Don't worry, it won't be totally about them (though it'll seem like it). There's some interesting developments with Zero, too. As for the K/Y romance, it will seem like happily ever after, but I don't think it will be since Yuuki still has feelings for Zero.]
