Well, this should make many, many people happy. The whole thing was a bit odd to begin with.

Zac Effron's involvement in the project may seem pretty unlikely now, but I'd like to think his claims that the project "most likely won't happen" are just him projecting his own thoughts. Since Mandalay took the effort (and money) to attain the rights to FMP, I'd like to think the real question to be tossed around is when it's going to happen. There's a likelihood, ideas for this project will be stuck in production limbo for several years before ever getting off the ground.

Yes, I would think that since the studio has the rights of all things that they will go forward with this. Anything he says about it not happening you might as well can discard. However, him not being involved is going to bring along some interesting and probably happy viewpoints from fans. And now let the celebrating begin...

It's nice to see that it probably won't happen but it's kind of cool that Zach is a manga fan.

He could be just saying that. :/ I don't entirely trust what stars say; there's so much effort to appeal to people that some celebs will say anything to please a crowd.
In any case, I don't think he would be right for the role. The only role I've seen him in was in Firefly when he played mini-Simon and he was decentish, but I can't imagine him playing such a serious character as Sousuke.

Well, many studios have had the rights to many things in the past that just never happened(Evangelion anyone? Also Watchmen was passed around quite a bit before it eventually got made), and this seemed unlikely already, so if he says it probably won't happen, it probably won't happen. I don't think it'd be a matter of them turning him down. That would be a stupid decision to turn down a hugely popular actor who's interested in a relatively obscure property. Oh well, I thought it could've been cool, but you never know. They're saying it's not likely, not that it definitely won't happen, so who knows.

Firefly was awesome. The only other actor that I think will make a good Sousuke is Matt Dallas. He played a serious character and did some fight scenes in Kyle XY.

I WANT MY MONSTER ANIME KPLZBYE.
I feel a little sad; I was getting some good laughs off of the other day's announcement on this.

:O
I feel like I completely missed the first memo here, and I did a HUGE double take when I saw that title. I guess this is what I get for not going on ANN for a while....-.-;;
Anyways this would be an AWESOME movie (and may even prompt me to actually finish the show :p) and after giving it some thought if Effron can manage to pull it off then more power to the whole thing!
S'yeah, hope this gets made. =DD

I'd suggest everyone follow the link to the actual news article at MTV, because that article seems (at least to me) to actually be saying that Zac Efron will most likely not be in the film but that the project is still active. The person who wrote the article basically points out that the fact Efron admits to having a meeting on the project says the project seems to be alive. It just doesn't seem Efron will be involved (which is like, no surprise - I thought it was way to early to be announcing cast for this).
Edit: I just checked the video, as well, and IMO Zac really is just speaking of his personal involvement, not that the entire project is off (and they skirt the entire issue of just what project they're talking about, as well, which was rather amusing)

Why are people here always so vehemently opposed to anyone in Hollywood being in anime movie that Hollywood makes? We've seen it with numerous previous announcements, like DBEvolution and Cowboy Bebop, and people oppose it every time. Even if Zac Effron were in an FMP movie, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Me though? I'm holding out on him getting into the Death Note movie. I like the idea of him being Light at the least.

Ask yourself, how good was DBE?
People in Hollywood are unable to make a good adaptation, all their adaptations do is ruin the image of anime in general among the people who are not familiar with it.
That said, I'm happy the guy won't be in FMP, and I hope he was right about the project's chances of happening.

One word: GOOD. Don't get me wrong, its not that he isn't a decent actor or anything, but lets all be serious and Sousuke Sagara as Zac Effron. I don't know about you but that image makes me both laugh and cringe.
About the remark about liking manga, I have a feeling some higher up paid the writer to say that or told Zac to mention that. When your in any type of business, you'll often be telling people what they want to hear and not what is really the truth.
Trust me, this happens more often than not.

The actors aren't what killed DBE, it was the crappy script. Even the best actors can't save a bad script. Blame bad adaptations on the scripts, not the actors. Hollywood executives don't watch anime, they don't know if a script destroys its source material(they may not even care). Zac Effron could've worked if the script for FMP! is halfway decent.
