I wasn't going to buy any of the Marimite DVDs until I watched a fansub of this OVA and it reminded me why I watched the frist two season. I pre-ordered them all.

I have to say I thought it got a little too funny...this series has always been sillier than it looks(see anything with Rosa Foetida), but comedy twins? Comedy gender-confused boy? Panda hugs? A bit much, I thought. It's better if it can pretend that it's refined drama all the time. The extended contrivance of Yumi's spoiler["kidnapping"] was very funny without sticking out, though.

Also, while the final episode was a great watch (just watching the younger cast members explore Italy was neat, and the way it played with Yoshino's illness was great), it felt a little silly that there's this fairly big to-do about Yumi spoiler[writing in her postcard to Sachiko that she missed her] at this stage in the characters' growth.

There's already a fourth series, by the way.

when i first watched this last week, i thought "Man...these episodes are longer than usual"....

then found out that they're 45+ min OAV!!

the story was flowing so naturally that i didn't even notice the longer episode length....

i was HOPING Yumi would find soeur in this series but the interaction between her and Toko and Kanako did open for interesting plot to 4th season...

on the teaparty scene where spoiler[Yumi was singing the school song and Sachiko playing the piano] was so moving that i had tears in my eyes...how something so simple could make a stranger so happy, it was very touching...

but one iffy thing i notice was the school athletic festival...i understand this is anime and the two main sisters are very loving but spoiler[noticing someone in a costume across the school] seems a bit out there...other than that, the episode was very enjoyable seeing how Yumi does her best to support Sachiko in such a trying time....

i'm happy that Righstuf will also be releasing 4th season to US whenever it becomes available....

That reminds me of something that weirded me out about that episode! Before that event, Sachiko said something like spoiler["if you were in a terrible accident and were wrapped up like a mummy in a hospital room with hundreds of other wrapped-up paitents, I would be able to find you right away."] Such an utterly bizzare thing to volunteer, it kinda took me out of the flow of things.

I think it's worth noting that there were two closers w/Kotoko, the 2nd one being very good in its harmonic movements and thematic ideas, and fit the series very well with awesome yuri art that Studio Deen particularly does nicely.

Definite DO WANT on my list, although I cheated a bit and started a little of season 4 while waiting for these.

Do they still use that small, ugly yellow subtitle font? That was probably my only beef with the DVD releases.

It is the likeable characters. There can be no other explanation with my infatuation with this series.
I would have like to see who Yumi picked for a little sister, (I certainly have my thought on who it should be).
It is tough to get the stupid grin off my face after watching any portion of this so far.
The OVA treatment was different, but no less entertaining.

A little warning to those who might be going into the currently airing 4th season completely unprepared: the opening already makes it very clear whom Yumi will be choosing, and the ending reminds you again in case you forgot over the course of the episode. Granted, the story moves up to this pretty quickly too and the main question of the season is how instead of who.

After her total indecision of the 3rd series?

Geez, that's quick off the mark. I thought they preferred walking slowly.

Oh, the plot itself take some few episodes to confirm what is clear from watching the opening and closing sequences for the season.

I'm happy MediaBlasters licensed season 4, (Fall and Winter II), I was very pleased with their work on the "Summer" OVA. Plus those who pre-ordered got a trinket (don't know what I'll do with it, though).
