Yeah, the episodes that are on this box set are definitely the best in the Bleach anime from what I've seen so far. The fight that happens toward the end of the whole Soul Society arc left me a bit disappointed though. I was expecting a bit more in the production values department after having read it in the manga, but it was still good. After that, we get filler, and lots of it. I heard a lot about how the Bleach filler were better than the Naruto ones, but I should have realized that wasn't saying much. Anime hyper

This review reminded me of why I liked Bleach in the first place, both as a series for your inner 10-yr-old boy to giggle at gleefully (everyone has one) and a series to take the piss out of chronically while drunk. Smile

This is also a stage in the Bleach storyline where you haven't quite worked out whether or not it's the kind of series where major characters are at serious risk of killing each other or not, so it's far more compelling to watch as a result. Shouen stories are always most entertaining while the heroes are still way out of their depth..

I can't say I agree with this. Bleach's background music is horrible, at least in this set of episodes. It doesn't even deserved to be called music...it's more like background noise.

Review echos my sentiments, the question on my mind is why is the MSRP of the set suddenly $20 more? That is per Viz's site, and that seems to be rolling downhill... even on Amazon where Box 1 is MSRP [$49.98] sell $27.99... Box 2 is now MSRP [$69.98] sell $39.99...

Is a new price regime coming, or did I miss the memo? Usually consistancy is pretty key... and with a series this long, you'd think they'd keep it that way...

So true!! I bought it, but wasn't happy about the rise in price. You'd think they would all be the same:( I hope the next one isn't as expensive. I mean, seeing as they're only in 20 episode blocks, this could make for an expensive series. Of course, after I collect all these, just watch Viz release a complete collection for less. I'll be sad...

I believe box set 1 originally was released at a higher price too, but later came out at the low price it's at now. I recall this because I remember getting it at Wal Mart for 40$ was a "good deal" which is now the standard.

I'm going to buy the one with the figurine of Ichigo.

I'm a sucker for those, go figure...

I picked up my copy last night at Walmart for $35. That's a fair price for 21 episodes.

Same here. If it wasn't for the figure I'd just wait for the re-price. I'm glad that they are giving us a better extra than the first box. Good thing in a way as it meant I put off the purchase of the first box enough that I can get the cheaper release.

I like Bleach for the same reasons that Carl does. Their is just some sort of, I don't know how to put it, energy that attracts me to it.

I agree but for different reasons I think the "noise" your referring to is one of my favoirite parts of the soundtrack but what gets me grinding my teeth is that Godawful "if you wanna see some action" insert song that rears its ugly head every time a battle kicks off (and very nearly ruins most of them IMO). considering how often they change the OP and ED themes you think they could afford a bit more variation with the BGM. definitely doesnt deserve an A.

That song is pure, unadulterated 80s cheese.

And God help me, I love every second of it. Very Happy

So do I. Cool Though, the rest of the soundtrack is hit-and-miss for me, but I don't find it to be completely bad.

On the subject of this release, it's disappointing that Viz didn't place all the textless endings on the set. Not to mention the lack of an alternate subtitle track for songs and signs. Mad

I cannot condone this glowing review of the American dub. If the cast really has improved as much as is stated, then they must have been utterly terrible in the beginning. Some voices don't even match with the character! eg: Ikkaku's VA sounds cool, but it sounds like a calm and collected villain, when the real Ikkaku is a crazed and excitable war-monger. And what was so amazing about Kenpachi's American VA? Once again, I'm unimpressed. I think the reviewer was far too enthusiastic.

Although, to be fair, it reaches the level that makes a passable dub, meaning you could watch it without bleeding from your ears (I'm looking at you, Kaleido Star), and be satisfied.

On the topic of BGM, to hear all the best strung together, you'd have to fast forward, to the late one hundred fourties, for Chad's fight with...Mosqueda or Mospeada somesuch. Also, there's a choral piece introduced in the new filler arc which sounds awesome

I like the music in Bleach. At least when everything is about to hit the fan. I don't think the music is on par with part 1 Naruto or DBZ, but it gets the job done. The part in the review that mentioned Ichigo's theme song made me laugh. Too bad spoiler[Aizen] takes a crap all over it in a later episode.

I'm glad someone else hates that song as much as I do.
