I pulled down the demo to check out character creation, and about 5 hours later I ran out of demo but was still stuck as budget Kirito. Then I look again and see that the tutorial ossan isn't even on the promo site, and just happens to have the same name as the (presumable) heroine on the box art...? Okay, I know just enough about SAO to see what you're doing there, Bamco.
Beyond that, it looks and runs amazing at max on my machine I haven't upgraded in 3 years, and it's easily the best looking "anime" game I've ever played. The combat balance on Normal is much easier than I expected from the control scheme, but still has just enough pressure to keep from being a button masher. I died only once, against the second quest boss, but only because I forgot to allocate stat points. I beat that boss on the second try, still at level 1 stats, and it was at a level I would call "casual hard." Everything after, once I actually leveled up and upgraded my gear was fine. I've seen complaints that the world feels "empty" and can only assume that people either don't have eyes, or are far too used to games like Genshin that have a puzzle every 10 feet to keep you stimulated. The feel of trekking from point A to point B is actually pretty relaxing, like wandering a real MMO world, and every square inch of it feels lovingly hand-crafted. I won't be able to pick this one up at launch, but it's on the short-list for sure. |

I actually liked that the world wasn't packed with activities every few steps. Exploring felt more natural and relaxing, and the environment looked great throughout the demo. It definitely moved higher on my wishlist after trying it.
