“Visionary” Adi Shankar. Really? The poster wants to start a scene?
It doesn’t work. The characters are still off in major ways, and there are some jokes with the animation I dare say would have been done better by Family Guy. It’s a mess. One more season of said mess. |

On a technical level animation is pretty good and Studio Mir is comprised of South Korean people so props to those people and their good work as always!
Now we must not forget how selfish Adi Shankar is. This might not be related to the animation itself but since he is the producer it could have been mentioned. Basically this guy was so sad when DMC5 was announced because "it ruined" his own surprise and his plans to capitalise on the whole franshise, all for himself. So he would rather make a Street Fighter animation series instead, how crazy is that? You can find that interview where he mentions that on his own channel on youtube. Honestly, I think people exaggerate this. Shankar felt the franchise died with DmC and wanted to revive it but DMC5 revived it on his place. I don't see Shankar as a meanspirited note on DMC5 but more like a big acclaim on how such game revived DMC and now everybody wants Capcom to do another game. About the season 2, honestly I kinda enjoyed with the two main villains who contrast each other a lot but it seems that Dante is a victim on it considering he can't even win fights. Vergil feels a bit like Gamorah from the MCU based on her realtionship with Mundus whose characterization feels like a wise but cruel mentor like Thanos. I wonder if Nero will appear in season 3 considering there was a small commentary about his hometwon, Fortuna, but that might need timeskip like the games do as Dante is 40 year old in 5 who doesn't shave. |

Considering Shankar's repeated milkshake ducking, he does not deserve any benefit of the doubt. He was mad DMC5 was announced because it ruined his chance to be seen as the guy who gave the series a comeback. That's it, nothing deeper to it other than a wounded ego. Anyway, I forgot this even came out and...eh? It once again suffers from the fluff being more palatable than the crunch. When it's just being The Dante Show with Johnny doing his thing it's fine, but whenever it tries to delve deeper it falls flat. This is gonna be wrapped up with Season 3 anyway. I think the haters are just delusional in general. I thought season 2 was an overall improvement from season 1. Could have used more episodes but overall I still enjoyed my time with it and I’m looking forward to season 3. |

I honestly forgot this show got a season 2, but I did eventually check it out and I definitely think this season is an improvement, but I still think the show is just kind of OK. The fact that it doesn't follow the plot of the games doesn't bother me, and neither did Castlevania, but if you're going to go off scrip the story you're telling needs to be good, and while the story Castlevanis told was brilliant, the story this show was telling is pretty middling. It has some good ideas, but the execution is really lacking. The action scenes are great and I like Dante, but I'm just not that invested in any other character, except maybe Vergil.

I do not know why someone would call others haters when all I did was to describe how the situation was, but they want to give tabs to people it seems or they just want to troll. it is sad really. |

While I don't think it's better than the game's overall story it's not terrible. Calling out the English cast is odd for the review since they are the true cast not a dubbing situation. Just because it's also in Japanese doesn't make it a dub situation. In this case the Japanese is the dub. The music was so good I ordered the vinyl. I will say as someone who played all the game, DMC2 was so bad and largely forgettable that them using major villains and plot points from it made the story fresh and interesting. I am looking forward to the final season, the review forgot to mention it's a 3 act trilogy story not just seasons.

I still can't see it as meanspirited as people claim. Let's use Hideki Kamiya as an example. He directed Resident Evil 2 where he created Leon S. Kennedy but didn't work in RE4 where Resident Evil 4. Kamiya loved Mikami's work in RE4 especially with how cooler he made Leon. If season 3 takes elements of DMC5, I can't see it as Shankar hating the game but paying homage to the entire series in the three seasons. |

The haters of this show feel like I did during the Castlevania show. Im not really that invested in DMC, so to me its sort of a mixed bag show, but I've played the games and it really isnt those.
The review is wrong on one point - less political commentary is preferred thanks. If thats what you liked about season 1, all I have to say is....huh? Do you not know how to find other media? The political commentary in this show is so remarkably strained and exaggerated I almost had to laugh at that part of the reviews conclusion. Anyways, the show is disjointed. Its silly bordering on ridiculous, but wants to have really serious moments and plot lines. I think you can pull that off sometimes, but like in season 1 there was the episode about how the rabbit came to be. The tonal shift was jarring. Better writing, better planning can make stuff like this work - but its not there. I dont find the show awful, but its not excelling at any thing except animation at times. Which I do love that. |

Eh, it just seems like people are mad Shankar made a forgotten series noticeable and famous again. Most of the changes the show made is for the better. The games really haven't aged well so it's nice to see a more modern take on these characters. Lady especially is a lot less of a sexist portrayal than she is in the games.

The second season also showcases the refugee demon element to be a gigantic pain in the ass due to it primarily focusing on monstrous and powerful demons who outright enjoy consuming humans. Even while there a minority of peaceful demons, its still a hamfisted and flawed metaphor to compare real life minorities to a species of violent monsters like Beowulf. |
