Gotta agree with Parasyte 3 being underwhelming, but I'm hoping it'll build up to something good in the next volume. I'm hoping Claymore is the way it is, due to the change in magazines, and not because it jumped the shark.

I always wondered if Princess Ai was any good or not and now I know Smile I knew that having Courtney Love's name on it was gonna make it bad but I thought having Ai Yazawa's name on it would make it good. Glad I now know.

Also wow why all the hate for Vampire Knight? I'll admit it isn't all that good but I can't say I hate it.

For several RTOs, I've been seeing high ratings for Yakitate!! Japan. But I did not pick it up because, well, it's a shounen adventure about baking bread. When a manga sale came, I decided to pick it up and boy was I delighted.

I will not make the same mistake for Kitchen Princess after such a high rating from RTO. A shoujo drama about cooking: now I'm curious about what that is like after going through an excellent shounen manga about baking.

But I'm still scared of Iron Wok Jan; the rather fierce, distorted faces of the characters depicted on the book covers of that manga disinclines me to pick them up.

The reasons you list off (mainly the un-flipped $10 revolution thing) are the reasons I've stuck by the company so long - but they've only gone down from there, and I think I am jumping the "Viva Tokyopop!" ship now. Hell, I even stuck with them through the "manga lifestyle" BS they were peddling when they turned their official site into a MySpace clone.

Kitchen Princess...just the title puts me off, but I do love over-dramatic shoujo, so maybe I should get over the title and give it a try. But now, for shoujo, I am totally hooked on Swan - after falling way behind, I was able to get the volumes 10-12 for $5 each, and I want moooore! Speaking of classics, glad to see you also reviewed Cat-Eyed Boy - Drifting Classroom is intense, and I am interested to see how Umezu will stand with one-shots (doesn't sound like it's worth the $25). The thing that made Drifting Classroom work for me was once I thought the class would be safe for a bit, there was always something else threatening them. With one-shots, there isn't that sense of urgency.

Doesn't Anzu do porn? I've seen a few releases from Icarus with that author's name.

Claymore volumes seem to sometimes make weird choices regarding the chapters they include. Personally, I think it would have been better if the first chapter of Volume 12 had been included in Volume 11. That way, Volume 11 would have ended with the last chapter before the timeskip.

Instead, with Volume 12, we get a single chapter, then a timeskip.

Yeah, that would've made way more sense. Naruto was actually able to have its timeskip coincide with a new volume by having the Kakashi side story finish up the first arc ...

Sadly, with the strict editorial rules about how many chapters can fit into one volume of manga, it's hard getting a story arc to cut off in a good place. Especially when the chapters are long.

Different artist, same pseudonym, I'm guessing. This is the Anzu who drew The Reformed.

So if Tokyopop undergoes a milkyloveotomy it might recover quicker? I still have headaches when ever I read the name DJ Milky as painful memories of that Initial D opening comes flashing back. Anime dazed

Hmm... not very many of the series I'm interested in had high reviews this time around. I already preordered Cat Eyed Boy so I am going to buy it. Besides, a B- is fine for me. A lot of my stories probably have that grade anyhow. I want to get Claymore and Parasyte(despite the fact that my stomach feels sick when I look at its gore), but these grades don't seem to do the manga any good. Oh well.

I thought that Parasyte 3 was pretty good, myself. Although, I agree that there might be one too many "You've changed" scenes thus far. The massacre sequence was certainly visceral, which was good, and that rock toss was pretty cool.

I'm just wondering when parents are going to start pulling their kids out of that school. It's not as if this is the first blood bath they've had Razz

As for the new "detection method" the government has got...yeah. It'll be interesting to see where things go next volume.

Kitchen Princess sounds good, but I'm still not sure. I've been keeping up with the reviews for it here and I know they've been quite positive in general, but I wonder if shoujo is for me. Having said that, I love Yakitate, and it was Carlo's volume 4 review which drove me to pick that up, so maybe I'll give KP a shot.

I may have to at least look into Kitchen Princess and I think that Alive sounds interesting enough to pick up too. Damn you Carlo, always getting me into new series!

Also, the column title makes me very happy. <3 Chef Ramsey.

Now I'm totes interested in Kitchen Princess. My library has the first handful of volumes, and I've never really wanted to read it until now.

Parasyte volume 3 is kinda a dragger compared to the rest of the series, but it all leaves to a great conclusion in the final volume, so it's worth it in the end.

Vampire Knight isn't that bad, although I did like MeruPeri and Wanted better. :3 I can't help it, the uniforms are so cute.

you know it's a bad week when Kitchen Princess is the only high mark.

i don't think Claymore hs jumped shark at all. the slowdown is only temporary, there's some really huge developments in 13 and 14.

I laughed at the Princess Ai review. I loved the series back my freshman year of high school, but now that I've gotten older, I really wonder what I found in that series. The art is gorgeous, but the storyline sucks.

I had to laugh about the heart shaped box comment. Rolling Eyes Gotta love Courtney Love.

As for Tokyopop, the only manga I buy from them anymore is Loveless, and that's it. I prefer Viz and Del-Ray to them because Tokyopop is just overrated now.
