The They targeted gamers. Gamers. meme has finally entered real life. I don´t know if I want to laugh or cry. Actual life has become more insane than satire.

I've heard about the Hong Kong suspend mails to the US announcement yesterday, and I can't say I'm not surprised by this. This is what happened when you have a POTUS who recklessly decided to put tariffs on everything, this was to be expected.

The economy is going to go into a tailspin, and it won’t stop any time soon. Some people pointed out an ESPN documentary about the USFL, the football league our current president tanked with similar decisions and when they interviewed him in 2009, twenty years after the fact, he denied any and all responsibility and said he was correct in all his decisions.
In other words, if you’re a fan of video games, buckle up. Things will get worse before they get better. This became a political matter the second prices were directly affected for political reasons. |

From Good Smile increasing prices, to Nintendo having to shuffle around inventory, to the PS5 price going up, to this, the tariffs have become the biggest issue for everyone right now. It affects everything and nobody can blame anything but obvious politics. We're knee deep in it, people

It can get much worse and I'm afraid this fandom communities could become a possible target not only from tariffs but something else, and I'm not going to go off topic on it. |

I'm wondering when this will start to hit consoles as well, even if they decided to keep the Switch 2 at $450 as long as the tariffs are stable (I read reports that many US bound Switch 2 consoles are manufactured in Vietnam so they may be relatively safe for now) an article I read said that a majority of game consoles and accessories are manufactured in China. The admin exempted some electronics but it seems to only be computers and computer parts, not things like game consoles or accessories.
We could be looking at many game consoles costing $1000+ once companies run out of domestic stock if they had to apply the 145% China tariffs directly... well I guess you could get a PS5 digital for $980 if you really wanted sub 1k, still gotta pay like $180 for a controller though. I know that's a hypothetical and companies will do everything they can to avoid it because it would greatly hurt sale, but man are those prices eye watering even as a thought experiment to see how bad it could get. Even if they don't pass it on directly it is going to harm gaming as a business and hobby so much it's hard to even quantify. ETA: I just saw that Playstation is raising prices in a bunch of places with prices hikes expected in the US soon. I doubt my math will be right on the money since they are distributing the cost to other places as well, but I guess we will se before too long what the actual price hike looks like in the US. |

Yeah...
For people in the US, the prices of video games and toys going up is the least of your concerns. Buckle up. The idiot said he would go full dictator mode, you voted for him anyway, and now you're getting what you voted for. |

I never ordered from the Square Enix Story anyway given what they charge for shipping was already insane. You can find their stuff cheaper elsehwere.

It's going to get ugly for sure, this is a combination of 'Smoot-Hawley 2.0' tariffs, isolationism, and what a certain failed Austrian art student did in 1930's Germany. What I have to say is keep your heads on a swivel and be wary of who you trust.

As someone who voted against him, I'm utterly ashamed that he's even still around. |

I'm more concerned and very worried about collective punishment towards Japanese-Americans, & Korean-Americans communities (along with spreading toward AAPI communities) and the collective punishment spread to anime/manga fandom, along with K-pop/Hallyu fans (including people who read webtoons/manhwa), and probably BL fandom too a lot more then tariffs and the whole US economies. |

There’s things far worse with this is regime I’m not going to get into but there’s reports that that at the US ports, No one is collecting tariffs or enforcing plus with Trump literally using tariffs to manipulate the market (post an hour or two before his “tariff delay” to buy his stock DJT and then it shot up in price and made $415 million that single day and other members of congress buy lots of stocks right before the announcement of the delays and made untold millions). They’re not only screw people and businesses over, they’ve made China stop exporting rare metals to everyone, gonna make the US dollar worthless, and much more for no reason but cause suffering and misery.

That’s an extremely broad brush stroke that is not accurate nor fair to the 75 million Americans who voted against this tyranny. |

They just raised them again to 245%, RIP our economy as well as anyone who enjoy a hobby that requires mass manufacturing.
