I am trying to figure out the disconnect between the joy of seeing Kiki rendered in Endo-style with all of the Anya-level precociousness, the weird feeling about seeing a character I'm used to seeing in Ghibli-style in something other than that, and the knowledge that Kiki's Delivery Service is far older than the Ghibli movie it was adapted into.

You're not alone, I have the same thought like you do when I first saw the front cover. So it's understandable for someone who watched Ghibli/Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service to not be used to seeing a non-Ghibli drawing of Kiki. |
