Those are…some choices. There’s a post-mortem just begging to be told here. |

I am going to assume it's Buy to own and not rental/Streaming?
E: it's probably not available in my region anyway. Last edited by Glordit on Mon Aug 05, 2024 4:35 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Hmmm maybe I’ll finally get my library card reissued to stream it off Hoopla. |

According to the comments on the reddit thread, buy/rent, not streaming. |

Anyone who is surprised hasn’t followed Tori’s dubs in recent years. This is normal for them.

Well that sucks. I have no need to own it. Rental is OK but then you are forced to watch it under time constraints. Streaming would have been so much easier. It will probably be region locked for me anyway. |

I know I made a snarky comment on the last thread about them being too little too late on releasing this in the west (and not even anywhere outside the US apparently, or is Canada included here?) but this genuinely feels like they just don't give a damn about releasing this one globally, cause I don't think any significant number of people use Prime or the Microsoft Store for anime (I don't think people use the Microsoft Store for anything period, but that's another story).

I'm not sure if this is a strategy that just really works for Toei or if they have some kind of weird exclusivity deal that makes it work out anyway, but Toei releases stuff like this a lot for whatever reason, I'm pretty sure even the One Piece dub launches on Microsoft store first. The Digimon Adventure 2020 dub got a lot of hype from Toei it first, then radio silent for months and then was quietly unloaded to buy on these platforms without so much as a trailer before even more quietly being released on Hulu. So they aren't just singling out this show, they basically fumble all of their titles that aren't named One Piece. |

You were supposed to legally stream it Toei, not have just DRM downloads that can be removed from your library without notice because "purchase" doesn't mean "buy to own" anymore (I recommend watching many Louis Rossmann videos on that subject).
So piracy for this show will remain higher than it would be if had gotten legal streams from the start, sigh. Also, one has to wonder about English-friendly Blu-rays in the future. |

Better late than never (even if most people have just sailed the high seas to watch it), but not even on Crunchyroll?

What are the chance of it getting an english dub ? I thought this anime was popular and well received.

Of course they pick the dumbest possible way to release the show. I shouldn’t have expected anything else.
