Looks promising. There sure were a lot of RPGs in this direct.

Wait, what is this? Square-Enix is publishing a Mistwalker game!?
I was excited to see Fantasian getting a console port, but now I'm just floored.

I've still been meaning to go through my Last Story and ASH copies.... is interesting this is no longer being held hostage by Apple, but I have to say that the realisation this was not a Nier game instantly down-valued my interest in playing this any time soon.

I had totally forgotten about this. And now it's making it to consoles!

Fantasian was created for the Apple Arcade in exchange for some funding. The conditions include timed exclusivity.

TouchArcade (TA): How did Mistwalker and Apple end up working together on this project?
Hironobu Sakaguchi (HS): Projects often begin from unexpected encounters between people. In Fantasian’s case, it was a chance meeting with a few members from the Apple team. They happened to be big fans of the Final Fantasy franchise and Uematsu-san’s music, so we started by going down memory lane, and exploring different ideas and opportunities. All of this was around Apple Arcade’s launch, and we were able to create an awesome environment for our team to develop the game specifically for Apple’s new platform.
TouchArcade (TA): Did you plan to release Fantasian as a standalone game before deciding to go with Apple Arcade?
Hironobu Sakaguchi (HS): Frankly, there were no plans of any kind before Apple Arcade. “Can we do something on Apple Arcade?” was the first question we asked ourselves at the beginning of this project. |
