When this manga first came out I read the first 30 or so chapters. I fell off for one reason or another and always intended to go back to reading it but never got around to it. Then the anime was announced so I thought I'd watch that first before continuing my reading.

Anyway it's been a while so my memory of some of the details and sequence of events is a bit fuzzy. However I feel like the explanation of Mutsumi's role in the family was a bit muddled in the anime compared to my recollection from the manga.

Some of that may be clarified further down the line so I won't say too much but suffice it to say the Yozakura family basically has super-powers and the head of the family is always the one person in that generation who doesn't have super-powers. Their children do but they don't. The anime basically stated this but I think the manga was a bit clearer.

One of the points being that Mutsumi generally isn't expected to do much front-line spy work. As the head of the family her role is to be protected by the rest of her family and stay in the rear. Like the captain of the Enterprise.

I haven't spoiler tagged any of the above because I believe this was all information stated in the anime just not as clearly as it could have been. If the mods feel otherwise I'll understand their decision.

So far I would say Silver Link, been utterly nailing this adaption.

The A-list cast perfectly embody their characters, the animation is solid and fluid when it needs to be and captures the series' style/humor quite well, and they even manage to add in some new content to really enhance the story.

Also Taiyo and Mutusmi are so cute together. Blue-haired childhood friend finally won!!!

This has been surprisingly fun and cozy. Not really a lot going on, but what is works and is charming enough.

This may not be the best comparison, since Enterprise captains frequently got into the thick of things. Wink

So far this is a borderline series for me. I've kept up with it so far and found it decently entertaining, but if what we've seen so far is going to be pretty much the norm then I could see it falling off my list once things get busier for me.

This is show is a bit like Negima or Medaka box or RosarioXVampire. It starts more slapstick and episodic before becoming more like a serialised show. However, i'm not going to tell people to wait X number of chapters/episodes before it gets good. Personally, I liked early Medaka box. So if anyones not enjoying this now it's alright to drop and binge later, if you change your mind.

Looks like they're re-arranging some chapters to balance the focus on the cast as well as Taiyo's development.

I feel like they're also doing a fantastic job with Mutsumi's character and her relationship with Taiyo compared to the manga.

I loved Ep. 5 lol, it's a shame the main criticism for this is the obvious punchline reveals because after re-reading the date chapter in the manga, the lovey-dovey couple appeared a lot less making the reveal a lot more out of nowhere, but I didn't dislike the decision to make it obvious and the whole thing was just lots of fun.

Taiyo and Mutsumi continue to be a cute and fantastic couple who work well together in regards to their relationship and as being part of a spy family. The anime is doing a fantastic job of conveying that.

I kind of wish they didn't change Hotokeyama dragging off Ken-Ken and Motti in handcuffs while they're dazily in love but somehow the two of them mad that their date is getting interrupted by getting arrested as if they didn't just try to kill each other with guns engraved in each others' name is equally amusing.

Editing error: Kyoichiro somehow became Yoichiro in this review. Also "Mini" auto-linked the Doctor Elise manhwa artist. (Does that system highlight the linked text for the writer's confirmation or something, or does it just do it silently?)

Anyway… the original manga for Mission: Yozakura Family benefited from some pretty wild timing. Here's Jajanken's page for Undead Unluck's debut issue -- MYF chapter 20 was at the very back of the magazine, and over an eight-issue average, the only series ranking lower than it was Samurai 8. It's never been a big seller; it didn't even make the Oricon charts until volume 6. In another era, it may well have been canceled before its first year ended.

Except that one year later, Demon Slayer, Haikyu!!, The Promised Neverland, We Never Learn, Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, and Chainsaw Man part 1 had all ended, and Act-Age had been cancelled. Jump had just five series left with over 100 chapters (currently they have 11). They debuted 18 new series in 2020, compared to an average of under 12 for the previous five years. So there was always something more worth cancelling, and eventually MYF managed to find its footing.

James, I was going to be very, very upset if you didn't choose the right thumbnail this week. Needless to say, you chose correctly. Very Happy

It's one of those shots that I knew *instantly* would be the only reasonable choice for the thumbnail, regardless of whatever else the episode threw at me.

Thank you, this has been corrected. For reference, the Greenlink system does it automatically unless we mark/decline it, so it can be easy to miss.

In my opinion, the Yozakuras first tried a mixture of humour and action -like Sakamoto Days-, but both of them toned down the gags spoiler[e.g. this character will hardly appear again] and became more action-oriented. They don't overlap because Sakamoto and Mission: Yozakuras are aimed at different age groups and have different settings.

Only Witch Watch (anime when?) managed to keep the humour above the action.

Mutsumi is really standing out very well in this adaption moreso than she even did in the manga for me, which is saying something. Like every episode she does something that just steals the show.

Ayaka was a lot of fun animated, it made her deranged love for both Taiyo and Mutsumi more pronounced and I totally forgot she debuted with a leather catsuit.

I never knew I needed Aoi Yuki as a low-vibe hardcore gamer girl until I heard her as Shion.
