While I can understand where they are coming from, I've always found it strange that Japan is so quick to postpone/edit/cancel something due to a real life circumstance that may not even have much in common with the series itself. I have yet to see CSI Miami getting edited or postponed if there happens to be a murder in Florida.

Apparently shotguns are allowed if you believe this site.
Oh well, as long as the DVD has the unaltered content.... |

I remember that shortly after 9/11, American movies started removing all traces from the World Trade Centre from their upcoming movies. Or that the Simpsons episodes featuring the WTC wouldn't be aired. And wasn't a Cowboy Bebop episode featuring the Columbia space shuttle skipped during some re-run, because of the Columbia tragedy? |

Nope, it was actually an episode with the mad bomber that somewhat dealt with two towering skyscrapers. They didn't show that episode for the 1st 2 runs of the Bebop. The same kind of goes with how when Adult Swim was showing Lupin III, they didn't show an episode that dealt with Nazis for some reason, even though it was basically giving the Nazis a new hole with jokes. |

That's because a murder in Florida isn't shocking to anybody. Events in the US that are shocking to the general public (Columbine, 9/11 etc.) certainly do influence what gets shown and when. By way of example, the release of the film Buffalo Soldiers was put on hold in the US back in 2001 because nobody wanted to release a film critical of the US army in the aftermath of the twin towers attacks (the film was first shown in Canada two days before 9/11 but it didn't hit the American film festival circuit until 2003). |

Yet another anime that had episodes straight to DVD/postponed/canceled due to certain events. That's something that may need attending too.

While you're partly right and the mad bomber ep. was axed after 9/11, they did also drop an episode that used the Shuttle Columbia as a plot device out of sensitivity to the tragedy.
What's funny though, is that the first time (what in the original Japanese run was) the preceding episode was aired on CN, whey did show the "next episode" trailer for that episode, dubbed and with the name "To Be or Nazi Be". |
