I’d like to see the light novels get another chance in English, although Sound Euphonium! is one case where the original cover art actually hurts the saleability of the book. They’d probably do better with the KyoAni character designs on the front, although it’s possible the author and other rights-holders would never allow such a thing.

I went back and watched the movies the Crunchyroll has, to get the continuity, partly because I was puzzled about Kanade. I’m guessing the novels go into her personality and relationship with Kumiko in greater depth, as she still seems a bit mysterious to me. Or maybe Christopher is right, and what I’m sensing is just KyoAni just gliding over her characterization.
I was struck at how the movies really push the chemistry between Kumiko and Reina. Shuuichi comes off as a potato-kun in comparison with tomboy Kumiko and Princess Reina (there’s a reprise of the festival scene at the Daikichiyama overlook, and once again, the yuri is strong with those two).
Glad to have the series back, if only for more Tomoyo Kurosawa squawks and gasps.

The light novel was horrible. It's been a while since I read it and I really don't want to read any of it again. However, I remember falling asleep because the translator and editor barely put any effort into making the story readable. It was full of simple sentences. Reading it was like listening to a presentation where the speaker says, "umm...", too much. Or, like if the translation team was doing an in-person contemporaneous translation between two people. They had to just get the general gist of the meaning, keep things simple, and move on because the person kept on talking and they had to keep up.

Episode 3
Lots of room for Kumiko to grow as club president.
Loved the first year student (Panda-chan), with her question that occupied fans throughout the first season (are you and Ousaka in a relationship?), then moving on to the real matter.
Then she brings things to a head through staging a first year strike in solidarity with her friends, pushing Kumiko into noticing, and addressing, the problem.

Unless Crunchyroll messed up the subs, what she actually asks is if Kumiko and Shuuichi are in a relationship, not Reina, he's the vice president, Reina's the drum major.

EP 3 eyecatch
In case anyone is wondering "Fagott" is German for "bassoon", and not a derogative term for a homosexual.

Oh, thanks for the clarification. I must have been hearing what I wanted to hear.

Well there is a scene in the episode where Kumiko wistfully thinks of Auska!

The rapid cycling of weather doesn't have to be "comical", where I live it's perfectly normal to have a day that alternates between heavy rain and bright sun every 30 minutes.

I think you misinterpreted what the reviewer wrote. The comical part about the weather they were referring to was the fact that the weather changes matched the changes in the mood of the scene.

KyoAni loves using everything around the characters as metaphors. This was really prelevant in Tsurune Season 2. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying much attention to it in previous episodes but episode 4 had quite a few.
The gutter separating Motomu from his family.
Kumiko & Saphire sitting at the same bench but next to Takashi who's on a different bench.
The Taxi's lights lighting Kumiko & Motomu up as they work things out.
The empty room and then the same room with the 3 chairs where Motomu, his grandfather and his sister would use.

Some people might be tired of the Kumiko/Reina lesbian bait, but my gosh KyoAni really knows how to sell it. Euphonium continues to bring me joy 9 years after.

I think the point of yet another music school conversation with Kumiko and this time Azusa was to make Kumiko realize that going pro is not the only path following music school.
I'm beginning to think what we're seeing is Kumiko learning the ropes to be a music teacher..
