Every volume adds half a dozen to a dozen new characters. Of those characters a quarter will be permanent characters, a quarter will disappear for a volume or two before returning randomly, and the rest will either die or just stop mattering.

They're treating everything so dramatic but considering all the tension (or lack there of) last season, I'm not sure if there's really anything to be all that worked up about.

So this is the new set of people who somehow hold their own against the badarses of tempest that where over powering a semi true demon lords men and overwhelmed the most powerful mage of human kind (according to himself).
I recognise the incongruity of the story needing to scale new threats but I will also eat it up when it airs.

Sounds like the movie. The movie is certified rotten on rotten tomatoes with a 53% critics score. Scarlet bond played in so many threatees but most of the seats were empty. I know since I was there opening day.
I haven't read ahead but based on what I heard, don't be overhyped. Anime is still strained by manga pacing.
