That's not unusual.

That's not unusual.

It is. For one thing, Lee George has just been hired by Crunchyroll to be a voice director; he's the first black person to do so for their company, and that includes Funimation as well. Other black voice actors have done directing for Crunchyroll, but they've been assistant directors more than anything; none have been hired specifically for the purpose of voice direction, until Lee George. Smile

Also, can you name any dub with multiple black leads? And if you can, is the voice director also black? I can't make any.

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai. The two dub voice actors for the main characters are African-American and Dani Chambers is one of the voice directors for the dub. The anime had rap songs though I don't think the casting was deliberate for the two since the dub casting for it was colorblind.

It's cool that Lee George is directing his first dub though compared to the sub it looks like they're going with more new/up-and-coming names (which I guess is becoming the norm for Funimation's Harem dubs).

That has been a bit of a thing for Funimation going back many years. I don't know if it was necessarily intentional, but a noticeable amount of actors either outright started in the genre, or had their first bigger role in it since more experience actors tend to "move on" from it and left the door open for newer people to take the opportunities.

Congrats to Lee George! I've seen his name pop up a bunch AD-ing projects for a while now, so it's cool to see him bumped up to one of their full time directors.

Dani Chambers, yes, but Ben Balmaceda? He's not Black. Neither is the voice director. Dani Chambers and Mark Allen Jr. are assistant directors, so it's not the same thing.

Anyway, it's not a big deal, but it IS great to see. That's all.
