Mai Nakahara's biggest role nowadays is probably Seele from Honkai series, but it's nice to have her in main role in normal anime again.

I’m still sad about Fujiwara’s passing. Dear is still one of my favorite manga to this day. I’ve never read this one, but I definitely need to check it out, and I’m happy it’s getting an anime!

The Evil Organization is full of individuals with European sounding names. “Mira” is actually Miller.

This one’s interesting because the manga artist died during its serialization, so the series is unfinished. Will this anime stick to the manga’s “ending” even though it technically doesn’t have one? Or will they come up with their own ending for the series, even though anime-original endings are usually hit-or-miss? I guess we’ll find out when the anime comes out, but I hope that the anime team honors Fujiwara’s original vision, as well as the wishes of her family.

I have bought the Square Enix-edition tankōbon of Katsute Mahō Shōjo to Aku wa Tekitai Shiteita manga and have read them in the original when they have been released. A scene in the manga mentions the names of other high-ranking members of the evil organisation, and they are Bellatrix, Sadalsuud, Alcyone, Spica, Betelgeuse, and Fomalhaut, and apparently they are derived from the names of stars. So there is possibility that Fujiwara Cocoa has named the character in question after the 'Mira' celestial bodies. There is a red giant of which name is Mira A, and there is a white dwarf of which name is Mira B. And when Japanese people pronounce the 'Mira' part of the names of the stars, broadly speaking, it is /mira/ (ミラ). And the name of the character in question is written as ミラ in the manga. When Japanese people transliterate the English name 'Miller' and write it in katakana, usually it is ミラー. See this Amazon Japan page about an Arthur Miller book published by Hayakawa Shobō. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/415140001X/ |

The title bothers me. Why wouldn't the magical girl and evil lieutenant be arch enemies?

The emphasis is on "used to be" because, y'know, the story is about them falling in love. |

They just had to cast Mai Nakahara as the lead. Now I'm definitely checking this out!
Yuki Ono in his role kind of reminds me of Boarding School Juliet. |

Could be a reference to the Mitch Hedberg joke. They used to be archenemies. They still are, but they used to, too.

As I have said, whilst the name of the character in question is written as ミラ in the manga, when Japanese people transliterate the English name 'Miller' and write it in katakana, usually it is ミラー. This Amazon Japan web page has a photo of a Japanese-version poster for the Glenn Miller Story film (dir. by Anthony Mann), and the family name in katakana of the bandleader-trombonist is written as ミラー on the poster. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B09Z726MJD The Complete Works of Mishima Yukio (pub. by Shinchōsha) includes a conversation between Mishima Yukio and Abé Kōbō (originally carried in the 'Bungei' magazine in Shōwa 41 (1966)), and a part in which Mishima mentioned James Joyce and Henry Miller goes like this:
The English name 'Miller' is written in katakana as ミラー in the conversation. And the 4th edition of the Daijirin dictionary says:
