Razbliuto confused me at first, was like "the hell? Is that a new phrase?" It's the sequel title, awesome. This anime was fantastic, looking forward to it!

According to the Website, it is co-production with Crunchyroll, so they have the worldwide streaming rights.

Damn, I wonder what caused Netflix to not license the sequel series despite having the rights to the original series, this is the 3rd time that Netflix licensed an anime only for them to not license the sequel/second season of the series after Teasing Master Takagi-san (Season 3), Eden's Zero (Season 2) and now this.

Why are you guys talking about Dorothy like she's a new character when she's not? She was already in the first season.

Because Crunchyroll simply beat them to it, I guess.

CR has it because it's on the +ultra block and they have a partnership

Tbh, Netflix since late 2021 has been drifting away from licensing new anime titles and are more interested in creating and commissioning their own original anime (e.g. Bastard!, Romantic Killer, exception, Kotaro Live Alone, Junji Ito Maniac, Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune, Ooku, Gamera-Rebirth, Good Night World, Pluto, Akuma-Kun, Onmyoji, etc.) and Anime-Style animated series (e.g. Castlevania, The Witcher, Trese, Master of the Universe: Revelation, Kong: Skull Island, Captain Lazerhawk, Tomb Raider etc.) for their streaming service lately rather than picking up/licensing specific new anime series than in previous years (2018-2021) which would explain why FUNimation/Crunchyroll and Sentai have licensed the bulk of the anime series for the 2022-2023 season. Even if Netflix will occasionally license an anime series (e.g. The Seven Deadly Sins franchise, Uncle from Another World, Komi Can't Communicate, My Happy Marriage, the upcoming Delicious in Dungeon) they seemed to have moved on from licensing anime compared to how they use to license 5-6 anime from 2018-2021.

I guess the likely reasons why Netflix didn't even bother licensing Great Pretender razbliuto besides Crunchroll beating them are also:

1. The anime production committee for this particular anime series and many others had a much higher pricing bid leading to Netflix dropping out and Sentai and/or Crunchyroll swooping in.

2. Netflix not being interested in licensing those anime titles despite the huge appeal and would rather just focus on creating their own anime originals, resulting in Crunchyroll or Sentai licensing them instead.

3. Sentai and/or Crunchyroll had licensed the particular anime series months ahead of time as what happened to the other series (e.g. Chainsaw Man, Blue Lock, Tokyo Mew, Mew, etc.).

4. Great Pretender didn’t perform as well as Netflix hoped and decided not to license Season 2, similar to what happened with Season 3 of Teasing Master Takagi-San when Sentai licensed that season instead of Netflix despite Netflix licensing Season 2 of Takagi-San, and more recently when Netflix didn't even bother licensing Season 2 of Eden's Zero and the license went to Mediatoons and to a lesser degree Crunchyroll earlier this year instead.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me that Netflix might skip out and pull an "Eden's Zero" on not licensing spoiler[Shaman King Flowers] early next year.

I don’t think so.

Interesting to see if Netflix isn't going to let season 1 go, and we might get a recap film, like Edens Zero did.

ADN is planning to stream it for France next year, so you are correct.

Netflix didn't announced it in its geeked thing so yeah, they lost it, now the thing is who went to King Records to acquire it for the American continent

Wouldn't mind the series going over to CR if not for the potential issues that would bring with dub cast reprisals. Usually its the alternative I dislike more given that Netflix almost never releases their anime on blu-ray with a couple exceptions, and only until the past year or so actually cared an iota about bringing non-LA talent back. Thankfully the latter has been less of an issue.

Great Pretender's dub was post-Netflix dubbing agreement and therefore union. While plenty of Great Pretender's cast work on both non-union and union projects - not all of them do. There have been times in the past Funi would produce a union dub for a sequel to bring back union-only talent (the Haruhi spin-off/sequel, the Code Geass film, etc...), it doesn't mean they always did + I have a lot less faith in current day CR anyway to follow suit.

I just hope they can get the Netflix dub cast back but I wouldn't count on it. They haven't even bothered to dub new episodes of Eden's Zero with a new cast in favor of just going the sub only route.

To add to that, Netflix did have the partnership with +Ultra for a while and got things like Beastars, Great Pretender, Carole & Tuesday, etc, but now Crunchyroll has a partnership with them instead after the one with Netflix expired and CR has been getting their shows like Undead Girl Murder Farce and Kaina.

So Dorothy is the main character this time around?

Well, I doubt Laura Post would come back for a Crunchyroll dub but it doesn't seem like her character will be in this either...

I assume the reason Netflix didn't pick up season 2 is because they had no involvement in the production. I don't have a source, but I recall people saying a couple of years back that Netflix weren't licencing Anime any more unless they were part of the production committee.

Though I am not sure why, maybe it guarantees them access to all future sequels. Or maybe they just want to have a say in the production. It might even be that doing so allows them to exclusively stream the title forever Sad and not have the rights to the dub be turned over to the Japanese rights holder after a set amount of time. I know Manga UK owns the rights to GIT 95 dub, because they were on the production committee. Now that would be owned by CR.

Oh right, the final insult of the ending was that Dorothy is actually alive. I'd love it to be good, and I'll probably watch it, but that last episode left such a bad taste I can't be excited. Please don't build a great narrative just to spit on it at the end this time.
