I don’t really get the hate. Looks cute and not as cringey as Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop. Luffy’s actor brings the right kind of energy.

So besides Arlong looking absolutely terrible, it confirms basically the worst suspicions about the show. They're really trying to cram 11 volumes (and possibly more, with Dragon showing up) into 8 episodes.

"Not as cringey as Netflix's Cowboy Bebop" is not exactly the highest bar to reach. Although I did kind of wince at some of Luffy's lines and hearing him swear. His dialog seems really out of character.

The more comes out, the more I stand by what I said. I don’t hate it. Compared to something like the Cowboy Bebop live action adaptation, the team behind this one seems to at least get One Piece. It helps that it sounds like Oda was involved as an advisor to ensure some things were done to his standards.
And it looks fine. I dare say the CGI of Luffy’s rubber-body came out looking better than I thought it ever would. Buggy and Mihawk also look better than I thought they would. Arlong is the only one I’m mixed on since he doesn’t look threatening.
I’m actually interested. I’m probably one of the few anime fans that do want to see live-action adaptations succeed in any form, as long as it’s made with love and understanding for the original. It’s one of the reasons why I think those campy Japanese musical adaptations usually work.

It continues to look fine in a hey they really tried kind of way. Luffy seems to work about as well as he could too. Resident Evil 2022 or Bebop this won´t be as no one sees themselves above the source material but I can´t see this catching on in a way it needs to either. Getting at least a 2nd season to see some of the harder to get right in live-action material would be nice though. Vol 1-10 are easy mode after all. Well, still not suited to live-action of course.

Looks okay just budget. Will give it a chance. At the very least it looks better than Netflux Bebop and Netflix Death Note.

They spend all this money on the nice sets and effects, but then cheap out on getting decent wigs lol. The trailer was way better than the first, though I'll keep my expectations in check considering the Bebop trailer wasn't terrible either.

This honestly looks...really fun. Just from this you can tell they had a blast making it. Okay, the sets look more than a bit like a Universal stage show, but it's a good kind of cheese.

My impressions from the trailer:
Roger needed a booming Brian Blessed voice to go with his oversize impact on the world, but they gave him a really tinny one.
Straw Hats crew good casting apart from Sanji.
Arlong looks terrible, short nose and weedy looking. Mihawk looks good though. Buggy I am kind of 50/50.
Sets look good.

Well at least they've made it their priority to adhere to the source as much as possible, I can commend them for that. It still just looks like most of the other live actions through my eyes, but I am possibly jaded. Newer audiences will enjoy the visuals better than I can.

It looks pretty decent... just okay...
Through I do have to admit at the end when they show quick cameos of Foxy and Bellamy in the form of their wanted poster... that's a really fun thing to include even if they don't get past season 1...

Could they not find any beefcake actors? Roger and Arlong both look tiny.

2nd trailer actually gave me more confidence than the 1st trailer did. Not sure if I'll watch this anyway because I only signed up for Netflix to watch the Black Clover movie then cancelled right after, but if I do decide to sign up again, I may give this a view.
But man, I'm quite concerned on the pacing. 8 episodes to cover to the end of the Arlong Park arc... it feels like there's going to be a LOT cut out to make that fit.

While the Japanese productions have had some hits, the general assumption is Western live action adaptation of anime = Cringe, no exceptions. After screwing up Bebop, absolutely no one is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I'd agree if this were Roger in his prime, but this is when he's greatly diminished after being captured and on the verge of dying from disease already so I think this portrayal works well.
