Um ... the link isn't working. It's trying to send me to "animenewsnetwork.com/%3CA%20href=" which in turn is bringing up a "Not Found" error.

While I'd probably be good for the job, I can only *imagine* the chaos that place must go through during the year PRE expo! - look at how badly expo went off this past year! 0.o I'd like my hair to stay brown for a little while longer!

Actually, I think they are actually blowing up the old system and actually trying, at least IN PART, to professionalize the mess.

The problem is, it might be such an unmanageable mess that they just simply CAN'T. We'll see. They have a very tall order ahead of them, simply with all the challenges that the LACC brings -- not to mention the farce that was AX 2007 and how to recover some good will from that.

I'm glad I'm banned from the event, so I don't have to deal with them anymore.

While I'm not planning on going next year, it will be intersting to see what will happen.

Hopefully for SPJA's sake, this will help.

But, I'm not holding my breath.

Reads list of duties and responsibilities Shocked

Wow, that's quite a load to take on. Sheesh. Good luck to whomever takes that job.

Yeah, that looks like it will end up being more than 30 hours a week, especially as it gets closer to Expo time.

I probably missed this in all the brew-ha-ha that followed this year's event, but how did you get banned?

Let's try to keep that tired argument out of this thread, all that is over and done with and after the mess it made last time I don't want to see a repeat of what happened in those threads in this one.

Basically, I told them off -- repeatedly.

The thing was: I didn't have the worst time in the world at the con -- but I guess I left before closing ceremonies and the announcement that they were going to the LACC.

Well, after a day or so to reflect on the entire mess (and the debacle which hung over the con like a pall by Monday), I began to frequent the boards over there (and you guys got a taste of that over here on the ANN discussions on AX) and just let loose.

You see, I see the SPJA as a bunch of, essentially, frauds who couldn't run a convention the size of ALA the type it needed, after some of the decisions I heard and saw made at this year's con.

(I still owe Chase Wang a phone call after the PR guy for SPJA basically gave an interview to ANN that I felt was so far from the truth that I called for his resignation from SPJA -- not realizing that he was just doing PR... Once I finally cool down a bit (which might still be February or March or so...)...)

I mean, it seemed like everything that could go disorganized at that con did -- especially when it related to most of the main events. You know the stories by now: SKIN concert, Momoi, AMV debacle, masquerade, and blah blah blah blah blah.

And then, to top it off, they put AX 08 in the ghetto. Because, until LA Live (known as the "Drive the Gangs and the Homeless out of the LACC Area" Initiative), the LACC is a pit and, in no way, should this event be held there.

But, of course, they fucked up their relationship with the LBCC so bad that they had to make the move or call off 2008. (I wish they had done the latter, and said so.)

So, basically, I gave them both barrels. Finally, after getting a 30-day forum suspension back in latter-July, I finally e-mailed the forum admin, gave him my name and address, and said that if they didn't like what I had to say about them, just ban me from the event and get it over with.

They did. fudge them.

I've lost a LOT of respect for anime people (esp. the major con-runners, though there's at least one ANN high-up on the boards who has also lost my respect as well) over the last year. Was escorted out of two cons this year, and basically had problems at at least two more.

I've been to one full-scale con since (Anime Vegas -- semi-bleh), and, unless JTAF 5 goes off (and that's a big if), I'm probably not going on another one til ALA in early January, and we'll see if I can get through the 2008 con season without getting arrested. (Doubtful to unlikely, esp. after my thoughts about this year's Fanime and how they address people who doze off in the screening rooms -- "You don't go to the con to sleep in your hotel room." my ASS!)

This is NOT the proper place for general discusison about Anime Expo or the SPJA. That will be enforced.

Then, again (as in the other threads), what else is there to be discussed?

I mean, geez... It isn't like we have the inside workings of the offices of the SPJA (though I think we wish we did).

I was just answering the other person's question -- but if that's the stand, lock this thread too. There's nothing to discuss here, if not that.

You've been warned about doing this before. This is backseat moderating and we don't allow it here.

Actually there's plenty to discuss besides your shenanigan's. For starters there could be discussion about the actual duties listed and how they failed or succeeded in those areas last year or in the past. Or discussion about the past office manager and how he/she might not have lived up to the duties of the position. There's two examples right there of discussion material and they're specific to the article so you avoid the no general EXPO chat problem as well. Need more?

Honestly the position to me doesn't sound "hard" per se as more of time consuming and tedious. It's basically an administrative assistant manager's position for a public company. Instead of office building #537 it's for Anime Expo. The duties may differ from place to place, and I'm not saying doing it all is easy, but in the end this seems to boil down to an assistant manager's position. Which is going to be a hell of a lot easier then being the Con-Chair. That person is who has to organize the actual even and get guests, a band (if having one), and over see every other function. Sure they have staff to help but in the end it's their name signing off on everything and if it makes or breaks it'll be their name associated with it.

Then what the Hell DO you allow??? Maybe we should start there....

And if you guys did some frontseat moderating (as in, not throwing a thread on every dead-end news item out there -- since you don't want discussions on the industry becoming fansub-based and you don't seem to want any real discussion as to why SPJA is regrouping so much... I guess it's no wonder you let Mr. Answerman go completely industry-free -- because you can't discuss the industry right now without getting to what you're sick of...), maybe some of us wouldn't be left so puzzled as to why you allowed a thread to start in the first blasted place!

Yes, please... Because they do portend to the general problems that EXPO has. It's a pro-level con run by a bunch of freaking amateurs. You want a better AX? Turn it over to ADV and Funi, for starters -- turn it over to the industry and make it an industry con. Anime's E3, if you will...

The fact is is that discussing the successes and failures of how they do the job of "Office Manager" in the past goes right to the heart that they couldn't get out of their own freaking way and needed to be bailed off by an LBCC staff so honked off at them...

(Oh, I guess that might get Zac honked if I go any further. See?)

What makes it hard is undiscussable thanks to Zac's mandate. So I guess it goes back to the question I asked him above...
