Part of me wants to say that this sounds wildly unfilmable. Actually, though, if they can do decent lizard-man makeup on a budget and focus on shootouts in limited sets, they could maybe pull off something fun and memorable in the vein of grittier tokusatsu films like Zeiram or Hakkaider. Leaning into the robot stuff or going for the TV anime vibe sounds like a recipe for disaster, though.

OK, from what I gather, they have crowdfunded a pitch trailer, which was funded entirely an hour ago.
But while the studio has experience with tokusatsu and live-action mecha (it's the people who did Bravestorm), I think Dynamic Pro's best bet would be to have them make the pitch trailer, then have Del Toro take a look at it and go "Hey! I know Legendary messed you up with Pacific Rim, but this would be infinitely more insane if you directed it!"

I would hope, Getter Robo The Live Action Movie is at least as good as Voltes V’s live action series looks. It would also be good to see the Classic Getter Robo and Getter Robo G series get a US release for its 50th Anniversary. I know Grendizer’s 50th is in 2025. I thought Getter Robo was 1974.

I hope they're able to do the property justice.

Well now that they have the money to make a promotional trailer (and then some) we’ll at least get some idea of what we’re in for. I don’t know if they have a cast yet or if they’re going to use the promotional trailer to recruit cash and a producer. Amazon Studios would buy it. Between it and Voltron we could start a Super Robot Wars Cinematic Universe. (J/K)
