That series was amazing - and the backstory on how the show got made even more so. Oni deserves every accolade it receives and much more. 10/10

I wish Inu-Oh had won but Marcell was a solid choice but Cyberpunk should have won it's category. I'm glad something anime won with Oni and I need to check it out. I feel like Oni is a title that's been overlooked by anime fandom.

Tengu's daughter? Daikon? Cat-octopus? Umbrella?

It seems to border on the definition of anime, which is probably why, similar to Pig The Dam Keeper Poems (which I think is by the same studio too?). It doesn't have a listing on MAL either (not that I endorse all of MAL's database curation decisions).

Stop motion in general feels semi-divorced from the animated medium even if it is another type of animation. Still, quality is quality. Between Oni and Pinocchio, stop-motion productions seem to be winning all the awards.

Though anime fans, myself included, seem to love Thunderbolt Fantasy and insist on calling it anime in spite of it being a puppet show. But I would have thought Mari Okada being the writer of Oni would have been a big draw for anime fans but I feel like not many fans are aware she wrote this show.

Oni is not an anime because Tonko House is an American company.

It actually does now, as someone who is on the DB team it took a while to figure out whether it was counted or not since it's suuuuper borderline. because of that it only got added a couple weeks after it came out and only a couple hundred people seem to have noticed.

I'm a fan of her, but I know plenty of people would consider her a turn off.
