The person who did that page messed up or something... I was able to decipher what I would win, plus the Terms and Conditions, so all was well =)

Yeah, the right hand column news covers up part of the information. I even expanded my window to the full 19" screen, and it minimized the obliterating, but there was still about a 1" of text on the right hand side that was unreadable.

This should be everything that was on the page, minus a few images and a video.

I had to look up Witchblade on Wikipedia. When I saw that Volume 2 cover, I thought it looked like an American comic drawing, and lo and behold... Gonzo's anime style was evident in the video, too. Yay for me.
But I still didn't get my Rozen Maiden contest prize... |

Yep, Witchblade was an American comic first, and has been running for over a decade now. And even though the anime features completely different characters, it's still considered "in continuity" as the Witchblade is a mantel that gets handed down through the centuries. There's a whopping 1280-page collection out there for anyone looking to get in on the ground floor. There was also a really awful live action TV series on TNT a few years ago.
The Witchblade comic was a total guilty pleasure for me "back in the day," and while I don't follow it anymore I'm definitely intrigued by the anime. Here's hoping I win this contest. |

You ought to be reading the comics now JG as Sara's got a baby in the oven and it's rumored that the Darkness may be the father. Plus a new bearer for the Witchblade too. I have the entire Witchblade comic line including all appearances in related Top Cow lines, spin offs, one time specials, and any other special they've done along with several rare prints signed and sealed and numbered. Bit of a comic fanboy. The only collection larger then this I have is my Lady Death collection.
As you said the manga (which is being released in American comic form and manga form) and the tv series are both part of the Witchblade universe. The manga comes first time line wise and is followed by the tv series. Though how far they actually are in the future, in terms of compared to the current Witchblade comics, has not been revealed. Nor has the time frame between the manga and the tv series though there is rumored to be a direct link later on the tv series to explains things a bit. I had a blast talking to Chris Bevins at Otakon about the show and Speed Grapher. Hopefully I can win the contest myself. |

Huh! Sounds pretty interesting. I'm worried, though, that I'd have no idea what's going on if I just jumped back in, as I haven't read the book since issue #40-something. And I didn't quit the book because I didn't like it, either....I thought the work Paul Jenkins and (I think?) Keu Cha were doing was far more cohesive than the Z./Wohl/Turner days, but the realities of college forced me to drop pretty much all the comics I was reading at that point, and when I got back into comics again, I think ol' 'Bladey was at kind of a low ebb, creatively, so I never picked it back up again. Oddly, my comic shop orders a ton of manga, but I don't remember ever seeing the Witchblade manga there. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
I'm betting my Spider-Man collection dwarves both of those. Possibly combined. |

Random question about the DVD case art: Would anyone happen to know if the Japanese DVD covers also had an American comic book cover feel to them?
I know occasionally the cover art is changed, just wondering if this is one of those times. |

No, I'm pretty sure the Japanese covers didn't. However, I think the comic book style covers here are just the slip covers and the Japanese covers are still used for the actual case.

The cover is actually a 4 sided O-Card. It has a flap like computer game boxes. Check out the Starter Box product page to look at all 4 sides release#9358 The DVD wrap for the volume is actually the Japanese O-Card cover art. We have element of the Japanese R2 wraps in the DVD 8 page insert booklet. Every O-Card cover will be illustrated by a Top Cow Productions Artist. Every DVD wrap will be one of the Japanese R2 O-Cart cover art pieces. That and you get an 8 page booklet in each volume. And the starter box comes with the Witchblade Soundtrack "Sexual Panic" This release has back. Lance Heiskell Your Friendly Neighborhood FUNimation Guy |

Just so people know that means those will be done by artists who have designed covers in the past for the actual Witchblade American comics. When Chris Bevins mentioned that at Otakon I was very pleased to hear it. I hope one of them is done by Michael Turner who was one of the original artists when Witchblade first started. |

Thanks for the info! I'm only slightly interested in the series, I've never read the comic, but I have heard good things about the anime and it does appear to be a decent action series.
I kinda hope I win, because I might never actually check it out otherwise... But at the end of it all, it'd be better if an actual fan of the series who's short on cash wins it. Good luck, everyone! |

Wow, there's actually someone in these forums who's as big a Witchblade fanboy as I am. I, too, have every single Witchblade appearance in either an original or reprint, even the cross-company cross-overs. Have to disagree with jgreen on the live-action TV series, though. Given the budget and practical limitations they had to work with on the special effects, I thought it was actually done pretty well. Certainly far better than any Japanese live-action adaptation of a manga that I've seen. |
