so it's still happening huh? at 100 million, this better not suck. i can't imagine how they're gonna pull this together without making it look silly, not to mention it's gonna be hard to put together a coherent plot... unless it just covers the first half something.

As a DB/DBZ lover, I was hoping that this will never say the light of the day. I for some reason just don't find DB/DBZ and Toriyama works in general to be live-action material and I don't think I will be able to stomach watching all those actors and actresses impersonating those loveable characters from DBZ.

Let me guess, they will have the Doodlebops do the hair for the movie. Laughing

On a more serious note. What is FUNimation's involvement with this, if any?

So, seriously, those rumors of a Live Action DBZ movie where true. But at $100 Million, well, that isn't a lot of money for special effects(Which, since this is DBZ, will have to be good). And I just can't picture this going good. It'll make money, if only because of the marketing and Japan, Atari will probably make some game,Jakk's Pacific will make a buttload of toys, more then ever I'd bet, etc. Seriously, is this trying to be the rebirth of DBZ? Are we gonna see a DragonBall Z remake series if this movie is popular, will we see a franchise being spawned if it is sucessful enough?

I'd say chances are good it'll be better then the last live action Dragon Ball movie........ http://www.dighkmovies.com/v3/178/178a.html

I'm curious if they'll-
a)Start at the beginning
b) Just tell a new story set in the exisiting DB world
c) "Reimagine" the world
d) Adapt a specific storyarc.....

Either way, it certainly won't negate the 100's of DB/DBZ/DBGT episodes, nor the 40-ish volumes of manga, or the franchise's 15 years of history here, and 25+ years of history in Japan..

I'm fairly certain it's already a franchise...

Anyways... Why is this movie set to film, yet the live action Eva is still a dead project?

Luck, and ADV is not Fox.

This can't be true. They will make a movie for children, without blood and death. DBZ have been always for children in Japan but Japanese parents are more liberal in what a children can watch than American parents. I don't want to watch Goku going to "another dimension".

I really can't believe this is happening; nor have I decided whether or not this is a good thing. DBZ is still very popular in Japan (saw many, many commercials for the new card-based arcade game while there last July), so I wonder what the general reaction for this is going to be over here.

there is just no way that this is going to end well. to have dragon ball Z be a success, it would have to top films like 300 and transformers. when it comes to anime films there is just too many expectations. the effects will have to be perfect, the actors will pretty much have to be professional body sculptors, and whats probably going to happen is there going to set this in the real world instead of the dbz world. ill bet it will be the year 2007 in the movie and this alien named Vagita falls from the sky and after him come Gokue and some other guys to save the world. i don't think there going to stay too true to the real story. and the problem with that is unlike transformers where that story line never really happened in the original anime but it worked out really well in spite of that, with DBZ you cant really do that sens there is a whole world you have to re-create, and with 100 mil im not seeing that happening. Confused

Ah-hah... my brother, who works at a post-production film processing and effects studio in Vancouver, mentioned last week on the phone that Montreal's somewhat ailing film industry was about to receive several big shots in the arm, but he didn't specify which films they were.

He was quite excited to find this out, as I think he's been dreaming of returning to Montreal to work himself, but Montreal hasn't had much in the way of Hollywood productions shooting there over the past couple of years, at least not compared to earlier in the decade. (The last big production shot there was Scorsese's The Aviator in 2004.)
