Aw man, I love reading James' reviews, but I always prefer it when the reviewer hasn't read the source material. Oh well.
I agree that the adaptation has been great so far. The brisk pacing is very much welcome.
Also, I like Fujimoto's art, but I remember the more calm scenes in the manga (i.e. the ones with no action, demons, or creepy stuff going on) were kinda boring to look at. The anime doesn't seem to have that problem so far. It's just beautiful to look at and listen to from beginning to end. I hope they're able to maintain this level of quality until the end, but as always, you can't help but feel bad for the animators at MAPPA.
Anyway, I wonder if my thoughts on CSM will change with this adaptation. I really liked the manga, but I thought only Denji and Makima (and my good boy Pochita) ended up being memorable characters in the end. Maybe seeing the other characters animated will change my mind.

When reading Chainsaw Man, I ended up feeling that it was a manga that didn't need an anime, and was plenty cinematic on its own. Having watched these two episodes, I'm not inclined to change my mind; however, it's undeniably a fantastic anime. Props to the VAs though, they're all killing it.

In a second view, Makima's manipulative antics are interesting, she goes from metaphorical carrot to metaphorical stick quite fast.
She holds Denji like Michelangelo's Petty and promises to fed him, then, in the car she tells him what she needs is a dog, later she feeds him and tells him he is the kind of guy she likes to which he responds with a "woof".
They get to the office and she intermediately places a desk between them and gives him a partner that will hate him and doesn't reacts when she arrives all beaten up and directly tells him they will kill him if gives up.
Yet, immediately closes distance and helps him when he can't make his tie to show support.
It's a master class on how to be a manipulative girlfriend.

this show is too close to Jujustu Kaisen these first two eps, just replacing Yuuji with an actual horny teenager. I'm sure it'll do it's own thing eventually, just have to wait it out.

or most shonen really, like coincidentally Bleach restarted at the same time as this and they both have plenty of similarity.
I'll have to take the people who read the manga at their word that it has really has amazing visual because without that explanation I'm sure scratching my head as to why the hype was so high for this as oppose to just about any other shonen. Maybe because it was delayed due to covid the hype buildup for longer?

If you take a look at the credits you'll notice that the show is carried by some of the industry's best freelancers, very few of them are actually tied to Mappa.

I've been getting the manga volumes from my library; I'm three volumes in -- I know about Manga Plus's read-every-chapter-once-free thing, but I prefer dead trees. The library's copies have queues; anyone have an educated guess about how fast I'll have to read to stay ahead of the anime? Is it looking like they're aiming to do the full WSJ run in two cours? 5.5 volumes a cour is a lot, but not wholly unprecedented; Kaguya-sama averages almost 5 volumes a cour, and Erased did 8 volumes in its one cour.

Live chart says this will have 12 episodes, since episode 2 ended midway chapter 5 this means the anime will end… I say chapter 38 or 39.
Ending before of after would leave it at the end or at the beginning of an arc.
This is of course thinking they won't do like Kaguya and essentially skip half or even complete chapters all together.

I think they're doing an amazing job of adapting the manga and capturing the look and feel of the characters, setting, and Fujimoto's style of storytelling. Even the Opening is pure Chainsaw Man.
The voice cast also doing a great job of personifiying the characters to the point where, while it's not the voices I had in my head, it really feels like Denji and the gang.
I'm looking forward to all the ED's.

The animation in this show isn't even good, half of it is either awkward looking CG or animation rotoscoped over CG.

As a complete newb to the franchise, I'm thoroughly enjoying CSM (when I see that abbreviation, I can't help but think Crosby, Stihls and Mash). It looks great, it sounds great, and Denji is easy to cheer for. Makima would have me in her pocket in two minutes flat.

You're free to not like the overall style of this show, but to say the animation itself is not good is just pure ignorance. There is way more movement in even the littlest things which give more life to the characters, something that most anime don't have the luxury of.
And no, there is NO rotoscoping here. Just animators who are actually that good.

Where did you get that this was delayed by CO-VD? That's not the case, at all.

I guess I could have taken the time to think up my own words but since the above completely communicates how I feel (except for the Stills typo, of course ), I'll simply quote them.

Wasn't it announced like 2+ years ago?
