It’s really weird that Sega never rereleased the arcade version of Outrunners on any other platform even with how advanced consoles have become.

...I know that Popful Mail is not exactly a headliner, but.

I will be so freaking salty if the JP version has it but the US version doesn't.

Anyone want to take any guesses on why Snatcher, a game that has pretty much become one of the most sought after sega games, is not on? considering it was ported over several times previously. It's not even in the Japanese release.

It could happen that way. The Japanese version of the last mini had the 6-button controllers and the NA version had 3-button, so it's not like they haven't done that kind of thing before. Not having the 6-button controller was annoying when it meant having to use a toggle system for inputs on Street Fighter 2.

Most feel that happened mainly because Retro-Bit were releasing its own 6-Button Genesis Pad to coincide with the Genesis Mini 1, so it was a mix of "blatantly trying to squeeze more money from people" & "not potentially cutting into Retro-Bit's sales".

Anyway, the initial roster reveal for the Mini 2 is a solid one. I honestly wasn't expecting Night Striker & Ninja Warriors to be included outside of Japan, so that was a nice surprise. I understand people's annoyance at Popful Mail not being included, but I'll still hold out hope for it. It's main ? is the status of the Working Designs translation, as Vic Ireland allegedly held onto the rights to that kind of stuff. At the same time, though, Konami's TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine Mini included both Cadash & Parasol Stars, and even kept the Working Designs logo on their respective English-language covers, so either Konami worked with Vic, Konami just didn't give a damn & included them anyway, or Vic doesn't necessarily have the rights to all of his company's translations.

as much as I would've wanted popful mail the WD version is no the best given how many unnecessary changes where made some of those examples would be

Enemy stats "more health/damage dealt"
Items costing more/less gold for items sold

This aside I'll be picking this up myself come October and having some fun playing some old classics.

The full game list isn't out for either region. They've been revealing them for the Mega Drive Mini 2 via streams for Japan and there's another one upcoming.

Snatcher could still be on one of them, but it is worth noting there actually isn't a Japanese language Snatcher for Sega CD - it was an NA/EU exclusive port. So if Snatcher makes it, it'd either be a regional exclusive, be in English only in Japan, or have a never before seen Japanese language version.

I came here to say the same thing. Wish it was on this but really wish that a remaster would be made with help from Limited Run Games. I've owned new copies twice for Sega CD. Back when it first released and again in 2002 when I was stationed in Hawaii and a Pawn Shop had several new copies for $8 each.

I'm someone who was actually hoping that there would be a second Genesis Mini because the first one only scratched the surface of the Genesis library, and I was half-expecting them to also include both Sega CD and Sega 32X games, so the announcement was pretty close to what I imagined save for the lack of 32X games.

I hope to buy it but, due to being on a very limited income, I won't be able to pre-order it and I doubt I'll be able to buy it at launch. I'm a little peeved that it'll just be an Amazon exclusive, I just hope that it'll be discounted sometime in 2023. ADDENDUM: Oh, they're not shipping the U.S. Genesis Mini 2 to Canadian addresses anyway so I'd have to pay a lot more for a proxy U.S. address and extra international shipping to Canada from the United States if I were to pre-order it. I really hope they expand distribution to Canada.

Not that I can afford it (nor do I have space for one) but the OutRun Arcade 1up unit includes the arcade version of OutRunners, the only time the arcade version has been ported to anything. I'm astonished that OutRunners never got even a Sega AGES release, especially considering that it's the only super-scaler OutRun that didn't feature the likeness of an actual Ferrari so it's the one OutRun where they don't need to change the appearance of the cars for any modern re-release. (One of the cars in OutRunners is obviously based on the Testarossa, but, unlike the Testarossa in the original OutRun, the Testarossa-ish car in OutRunners had been cosmetically changed enough to not fall afoul of any Ferrari trademarks or copyrighted designs.)

The positive aspect of the Genesis port of OutRunners is that it's a two-player game, which is why I suspect they also included it when the US Genesis Mini 2 already also has OutRun, Virtua Racing, and Super Hang-On for Genesis racing games, but the downside of it is that it forces the split-screen view even if you're playing single-player, so the roadside scenery isn't anywhere near as impressive as the arcade due to it being shrunk down to fit in the half-screen windows.
