Considering how much Microsoft is involved with this new game, I doubt it will ever see a PS release, but still, there is hope.

I do at least agree that that is where Kojima's eyes seem to be focused. I've thought that since Metal Gear Solid 5 when he dropped David Hayter in favor of Keifer Sutherland in a move that only made sense from the standpoint of wanting a Hollywood actor of some degree. I think he has some sort of movie production company now, too.

This sort of response is so frustrating to read as there's nothing about them developing a game for the Xbox (and only the Xbox series of platforms) that screams "we don't like or want to work with Sony anymore". And I get it, some people hated Death Stranding and feel that Kojima working on something for Xbox means they're being cheated out of a "better" experience (I personally adore Death Stranding and think it was a phenomenal game, so I'm satisfied with that).

Yeah, what little was said did at least emphasize the cloud technology is what interested him. Presumably, if Sony or Nintendo had something like that, he would be looking at working with them. I know that people associate Kojima with Sony, but he runs a studio that isn't first-party, so he can work with whomever he wants.

This is an interesting take when the Yakuza games exist.

I'm in the middle of my third Death Stranding playthrough right now checking out the director's cut content and no, I'm not bored.

(okay, yes I'm skipping all the cutscenes since I watched them already. I play this game for the gameplay damn it. Unironically!)

Speak for yourselves.

Death Stranding was amazing, and while critically divisive, was a commercial hit. And t was still GOTY for many outlets, and time had only been kinder with it as past the launch hype period and the hatorade backlash period, people now know what it is and what to expect and it is finding a more appreciable audience.

I have no problem switching between gaming and movie-watching so long as everything is entertaining, and you get ample time to play that isn't constant interruptions, though some people with shorter attention spans might have a different mileage or tolerance level.

I got into gaming precisely thanks to narrative and cutscene story games like Kojima's. I lose interest fast in games that are more focused on gameplay over non-ecistebg to no stories, so different strokes for different folks.

Were it not for games like Metal Gear and Silent Hill in the PS2 gen, I very likely would have had no interest in videogames. And we have pioneers like Kojima to thank for contemporary stuff like The Last of Us, Uncharted and the new God of War.

If anything, since MGSV, Kojima has actually been leaning into the gameplay department more. Ground Zeroes is a phenomenal master class of marriage between gameplay, wide linear level design, fun secrets and easter eggs to stumble upon, gameplay and well directed cinematics.

The Phantom Pain suffered like all Open World games tend to from being too open anf granting too much freedom to the player; and also most know about the issues going on at Konami leading to the fallout and Kojima going independent.

Don't know whether I am going to buy an Xbox just for one Kojima game. But I look forward to anything he does amd will happily stream it or look into a PC version if it happens or a port down the line if Kojima retains the IP ownership.

This is the 3rd game we have confirmation on.

1st game - AAA project - maybe Death Stranding 2 assuming Reedus was accurate.

2nd game - smaller experimental title - maybe the leaked 'Overdose' - probably related to VR, might be related to rumblings of Silent Hill rumors, but so could game 1.

3rd game - Xbox cloud project, long been in Kojima's conceptual phase, but nothing started yet.

Kojima is independent and willing to work with anyone who is willing to fund/help with his creative enterprises. This time it was Microsoft. Who knows? Next time it could even be Nintendo. S'how it works... Microsoft is looking for people who want to leveragr their cloud infrastructure and multiplayer. Sony wants good cinematic single player prestige games. Nintendo wants family friendly gameplay-focused fun. So to each their own.
