The convention will require attendees to the Anime Expo 2022 event to show proof of vaccination for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) or a negative COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to attending the event. Regardless of vaccination status, masks will be required indoors (except in designated eating areas) and will be optional outdoors.

Sensible measures.

My first thought when I saw the bolded part, was that they were talking about the new variants. After two years, it isn't new anymore.

I appreciate that they are keeping precautions in place. We keep seeing the relaxing of precautions, upticks in cases, and then negative reactions when precautions are put back because of the uptick. I get that in-person events are going to happen, but maybe it's time to realize that "back to normal" doesn't mean acting like Covid is gone. A mask requirement where thousands of people are going to gather from all over and then go back home is just good sense now.
