So it's finally time, eh? These systems had an okay run of it compared to their much greater predecessors

Time to start compiling some lists for 3DS exclusives or classic GBA games. Also wouldn't mind having a list of games that are very expensive to buy physically that we can still acquire digitally on the store.

Interesting Sony also wanted to close the PS3/ps vita store, but there was an outrage from the players, so they changed they mind.
But it was weird for me: unlike the ps vita, the 3ds hardware sold well in west, but for ps vita gets every bigger japanese game released in west before 2018 meanwhile for the 3ds: games like great ace attorney, monster hunter xx (generations ultimate) and even dragon quest 11 didn't released for 3ds only for other platforms. |

How's this going to work with Pokemon bank? Is it finally going to be impossible to transfer anymore?

I believe there's relatively good news in this scenario. It'll become free to use, though I assume you'll still have to pay for Home transfers Source on that. https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/1493769781396205569 Source on that source which also stresses "for an unspecified amount of time" https://twitter.com/Pokemon_cojp/status/1493767114968158208 |

Putting pressure worked on Sony but Nintendo gives no fucks about its fanbase's opinion so this is going through no matter what. But some fans are willing to give them a pass too.

Well this sucks. Guess this means I better buy any digital exclusive content on both systems, including DLC, while I still can!

From the looks of this, they are definitely focusing on Switch. For the past few days, there's been a lot of 'Switch News' (ex. new games and remake launching on Switch) after all...

This is why I buy all my Switch games in physical form if available. Even if it means spending a good amount like I did for the Collector's Edition of Clannad which ran me $250.

Well I've got most of what I want already on the system. I suppose I could buy some more GBA, SNES and N64 games before the due date. I always regret not buying LostWinds 2 on the Wii before that closed down.

The main difference, though, is that Nintendo have given us a full year's notice in advance, plus 3-5 months notice for adding currency via the Wii U & 3DS directly (though, since they're all shared, you can still technically just add funds via the Switch for the entire year), just as Nintendo did with the Wii Shop Channel. In comparison, Sony gave barely any notice ahead of time, as they had planned on closing everything down within a month or so of announcing it. It sucks, yes, but at least Nintendo is actually giving people more than enough time to plan things out with their final purchases. |

Once it shuts down, Pokemon Bank will become free to use for everyone.

I believe the final significant 3DS release was in 2019 with Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, as it is still the first game that appears when you enter the eShop. Switch has been the focus for a few years now. Four years since then (2019->2023) doesn't feel long enough to justify stopping sales entirely, in my opinion (well, obviously there are maintenance costs, but still). |

I will admit, I didn't think they'd make this announcement. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure the biggest factor that led Nintendo to this decision is the Pandemic and their sales that has skyrocketed from there on. And I will also agree with Lord Geo, at least they made this announcement a year before the shutdown. It gives gamers "time to plan things out with their final purchases." |

In the interest of fairness the reason they’re being given a free pass is that you have two types of people those who care about the ability to play stuff they’ve already purchased on new hardware/want to play old stuff on new hardware and those that don’t or rather don’t care that much. Yeah Nintendo does get criticism for this but the fact that they, Microsoft, & Sony to an a degree are still iffy on this means they’re going to keep doing this. |
