Surprised this hasn't happened immediately years ago with all those cicada shells she be putting all over her body due to her fetish because that's what I felt immediately when I saw her do that. She must have done something crazy. |

My mother developed a severe nut allergy (unprocessed almonds) at 19. It can happen at any time, even to foods you've eaten before with no issue. She didn't have to do anything "crazy" to have an allergic reaction.

I had no idea that was possible. I knew that some food allergies could subside as you grew older, but didn't know that new ones could develop after childhood. Then again, I guess it does make sense that it's possible, given that, IIRC lactose intolerance is similar to allergies in a lot of ways and often doesn't develop until adulthood. I guess it also makes sense more generally that if things can change one way, then they can change the other way as well. In any case... fun fact, I'm a super weird person who was lactose... "sensitive" as an infant and toddler, but now can consume as much dairy as I please. On the other hand, one of my younger siblings, unfortunately, underwent the opposite development and now can only consume lactose free dairy products. In any case, I hope Shokotan makes a full recovery! Anaphylaxis is definitely a scary thing to deal with. |

However, milk allergy is not the same thing as lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance, or the cessation of body's ability to digest lactose in adulthood, is the expected or "normal" way of things going about. Lactase persistence, or the continued ability to digest lactose as adult, is a mutation that evolved in certain groups of humans to a degree that really started having an impact around 10000 years ago. It has since gained prominence in some groups, where lactose intolerant are a now only small fraction of the total population. |

Same with my father who used to eat a lot of shellfish but one day his throat just swelled up when he was having crab and now he can't have even a hint of it without a sever reaction. |

Photos of her back rash she posted as well:
https://twitter.com/shoko55mmts/status/1477205035314716672?t=DiXXSai6YVHferf8AU9AGw&s=19 I wonder what she consumed that caused this. She hinted it might have been a medicine, not just food, but on Twitter, she also mentioned she was starting to feel tired and sick the day after a big event she hosted. |

My mother ate shrimp most of her life. At 60 she developed an allergy and now it causes her gout (I think that's what she gets) if she has any. Regardless, hoping a speedy recovery for her. |

Ouch! Looks pretty bad, but I think I've seen something like that before... can't remember the cause though. Allergy to some plant or fabric I think. Also, very much agreed despite my comment - allergies can definitely just "wake up" anytime in life without warning. I personally developed an allergy to something that goes into most perfumes when I was... 19 or something. Rashes and itches like hell. I can only use deodorant these days. Previous to that I used perfumes a bit much to be honest. I also have an uncle who developed an extremely severe allergy to sesame seed.... well along his 50 to 60yrs of age, never had it before. It's not only the seed itself, but also the oil... so even having food that was cooked in close contact to other food that used sesame seed oil for cooking will already trigger symptoms. Starts with painful headaches, a feeling of swelling, and then full anaphylaxis. You can imagine the hell it is considering he married to an asian descendant (mine) family. xD Sesame seed oil is everywhere. |

Ouch. In my case I've had allergies to Avocados. I almost suffered a severe allergy so I avoid as eating avocados as I can now in my state.
Prayin' for her recovery. |

Sounds familiar. My mom developed a lactose allergy while she was pregnant with me (second and final kid.) Not gastroenterological lactose intolerance as we typically think of it but an actual allergic reaction. If she had even more than a little bit of dairy, she would become asthmatic, and it has required a couple trips to the ER over the years. She had to carry around albuterol all the time just in case she had an attack. She tells me before she was pregnant with me, she used to stop and get ice cream with my sister all the time. In recent decades, she's been able to keep it under better control with daily Singulair, so serious problems are rare, but she still has to keep dairy consumption sparse to be safe. Yeah, sometimes things just show up |

Yeah, the body can be "triggered" at any time
The body changes constantly - most of it just not noticed |
